exhaust question

I've been reading all over the place, but maybe I'm on overload...

Looking to "deepen" the sound of my stock exhaust, and maybe some marginal performance, but I'm more looking for sound...

I LOVE the stock exhaust sound, but from reading, only the Nismo or Fujitsubo produces a similar sound. The question is, what does adding the Y-pipe do? I know it is more for the performance end--probably more than the exhaust itself, but would getting a Fuji or Japtrix or JIC y-pipe alone produce a deeper tone or not?

If anyone knows of an exhaust producing similar to stock sound, please give me a heads up...

y-pipe will just make it sound a bit deeper, get some HFC or Test pips and it will change it noticeably - also look into getting an mrev w/spacer, a combo fo those will deepen the stock exhaust.

crawford plenum and high flow cats would deepen it up.

I'd say Crawford plenum, Crawford high-flow cats and a y-pipe should do the trick.

I'd say Crawford Plenum, High-flow cats, Y-pipe and a supercharger should work just fine.

you guys are crazy, the y pipe will do absolutely nothing without a free flowing exhaust, it pretty much just straightens out the bends a bit from the stock y pipe, BUT if that exhaust cant go anywhere faster , then it is pointless.

he is simply asking for exhausts?!??!! any that are pretty quiet and maintain the close to stock sound, i know the borla is very quiet, the stillen is great as well...

Yeah, the real question is the sound issue from just the y-pipe...

I have the mrev spacer, don't need a plenum, and am not screwing with test pipes or hfcats at all...

The SC is likely to come later...

Thanks for asking this question because I've been trying to decide what to do as well.

I love the stock exhaust note, but now that I've got the vortech and Crawford HFC's, what can I do to increase performance and still have that sound. Right now it seems the Fujitsubo is my best option.

I sent something to Japtrix and the guy told me that their pipe is similar to JIC's in tone, which from listening to a boatload of soundclips, seems similar to stock for me. It's also $200 cheaper than the Fuji y-pipe...

Keep the stock exhaust and throw on a set of test pipes and a plenum or spacer. Dan one of the guys on here he has test pipes on the stock exhaust and it sounds awesome. Has the stock note, but when given a little gas it has that low note your looking for!

Y-pipe: no change in sound and like Jeremy said, it only straightens out the bends.

Crawford HFC: This will give you exactly what you're looking for. Doesn't make the OEM exhaust THAT much louder, but it's definitely noticeable. Here's where you'll pick up a couple extra hp too, if you care. I can't speak about test pipes since I've never had them.

Fuji: this exhaust sounds nothing like stock, it's quiet and almost doesn't sound like a G anymore, but that's just my opinion.

I'm a big fan of HKS and if I were to pick, that's what I would get. Might I ask why would you change out the Y-pipe but not the cats? It's the same amount of work involved and the HFC you actually benefit from.

yeah the crawfords HFCs would be a good addition, if you go anything more than that on the cats then it will get raspy and you dont want that, but the crawfords will help with the power too...

good idea finiti..

The y-pipe will yeild some power for him as well. The HFC will just add more power when combined with y-pipe.

I say just add test pipes and you will probably gain the same power as the HFC and the y-pipe combined.

If you plan on keeping the stock note DO NOT go with the HKS.

EDIT: Resonated test pipes will sound great with the stock exhaust. Basicly no rasp as well...

Oh stop the B.S...................!

Realistically the only way to change the sound of the exhaust is to change
the exhaust system! A diffrent Y-pipe will do nothing for sound and offers
no improvement. Plus, adding a spacer without the exhaust system will
do little except above 3K RPM. (old term) Your putting the horse before
the cart!! If you can't afford a new HKS, Stillen or Magnaflow exhaust
system go to our marketplace and find one used........this is the only way
to really change the sound!
