Legislation: SB 2228

Sponsored by: Senator STEPHEN OELRICH

DISTRICT 14

SYNOPSIS
General Bill by Oelrich

Speed-measuring Devices: prohibits use of devices that detect or interfere with speed-measuring devices used by law enforcement agencies; provides that enforcement must be secondary; provides penalties. Creates 316.1907.

The proposed Bill states "A driver may not operate a motor vehicle on a street or highway in this state if the vehicle is equipped with a device that is in operating condition and readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger and that detects, jams, or otherwise interferes with the operation of a radar, as defined in s. 316.1906, operated by a law enforcement officer."

You may view the entire proposal here: http://www.flsenate.gov/data/session.../pdf/s2228.pdf

I think my system works way better than radar detectors.

I am indifferent on the subject; I have gotten more ticket when using a detector than when I haven't had one.......

come to think of it, I bet it has been more than 10 years (maybe 12 years)since I have used one. ...and it has been about the same amount of time since my last ticket, too.

I think I have been pulled over about 5 times in the last ten years, but never received a ticket. (once of for pulling a 3 lane drift in front of a cop ...oops!, 3 times for tint, and most recently because of my blow-off valve.)

even yesterday, I gave Ian a brief test ride, and I turned down the use of his radar detector.

yeah it depends. I have avoided possible tickets a few times because of a radar detector but IF you do get pulled and the cop sees it, you will almost definitely get a ticket. Regardless that is a shizzity bill.

I've been saved a few times by my Valentine.

The bill says that this detector violation is a secondary offense only to be written up when a vehicle is stopped for a different primary offense. So, it will be like the old seat belt law used to be... you can't get a ticket for it unless you're initially stopped for a different offense.

Still not good in my opinion. I'd vote against it, however you can already see the do-gooder groups saying that it will cut down on street racing and save lives or something.

Good heads up, Chupa!

What kind?

Don't you have the display so you can see it from the driver's seat? Just make sure the cop can't see it while he's behind you.

my passport has saved me a few times. just having a detector wont save you, you have to use your head as well. luckily mine is stuck right in front of my mirror and plugs into it as well. looking from behind my car, you'd never know it was there. i can always disconnect and hide real quick but this is still dumb.

after not having paid attention to radar detectors for so long, it looks like not much has changed. The valentine looks exactly as it did when it was first introduced.

Yes, it's very similar. It has new laser detection mode that pretty much tells you you just got a ticket, unless several fortunate circumstances are in your favor.

I wish they would have made the four radar bands different color LEDs so you could tell which band was active, but still nothing on that...

It does pick up the Ka band well on the highways though.
