Hey all,
My company has an office in Melbourne, FL and I have been thinking of moving there. Does anyone know this area? is it a cool place? are there lots of bars, clubs, restaurants and beach chicks? Or is it a lame area that old people go to retire? any info on surrounding cities to perhaps live/chill in as well is appreciated. I live in CT rite now and this state sucks so I would like to go somewhere that’s a little more live, fun & warm.. Any info on that area is really appreciated..
Thank you..

[QUOTE=888_G35]Hey all,
My company has an office in Melbourne, FL and I have been thinking of moving there. Does anyone know this area?

I've been there quite a bit and have family there.

is it a cool place?

What do you consider cool? It has the beach, most modern conveniences, and it's pretty laid back, but it's small.

are there lots of bars, clubs, restaurants and beach chicks?

There are some bars and plenty of restaurants. I'd say the beach has girls. It's not far from Cocoa Beach or Orlando.

Or is it a lame area that old people go to retire?

There are quite a bit of old people, but Melbourne, especially West Melbourne/Viera, is growing big time.

any info on surrounding cities to perhaps live/chill in as well is appreciated.

Orlando is about 45 - 60 minutes away, depending on where you live. There is plenty to do in Orlando.

I live in CT rite now and this state sucks so I would like to go somewhere that’s a little more live, fun & warm.. Any info on that area is really appreciated..

It's warmer here and we have no state income taxes. My mother in law is a realtor in Melbourne if you need help finding a place. West Melbourne/Viera isn't a bad area if you don't mind a more laid back lifestyle. I could live there if I had to move for work, but I prefer Orlando.

What are your other choices for cities?

Thank you..

thanks all for the great input, please keep them coming..
Gilley - i really appreciate your thorough info and to answer your question, i would live anywhere about 20-30 miniutes away from work as long as it was a good area kind of like ft.lauderdale/miami or just has allot of action for someone whos single and in his mid 20's, such as myself..

I wouldn't really consider Melbourne as a place with a lot of action, unless you consider the beach a lot of action. It's certainly not like Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.

What are the other cities where you could relocate.

I live in Vero Beach, FL......which is one county south of Melbourne. I would not describe Melbourne as exciting. There are plenty of bars/night clubs, strip bars, hooters, etc.....but it is not a major city.

Alot of the working class people are employed in Government contract work. Cape Canaveral and Patrick Air Force Base are pretty colse (north.)

If you are single and in your 20s, MIami or Ft. Liquordale are far more interesting!

There is only that one office in florida that needs another IT guy so thats basically the only place i could go.. i would love to go more south to Miami etc. but thats like 2 hours away.. im gonna just try and pick the best area around there and perhaps find a new job like a year later in the southern part of the state.

You could do worse than Melbourne. There are many other cities in Florida that need IT guys. And we have a great club in Florida.
