Smile New Gears and Diff at Lokey!

I'm happy to say that I got my 4.083 final drive gears and Carbonetics CF LSD installed at Lokey this week. Big thanks to John Oliva, Doug Urban, and of course Christian for actually doing the work! It's a mod that Lokey doesn't do on a regular basis, but the have the equipment and knowledge to do it, and they did a great job on mine... Thanks, guys!

I have been planning to change the rear end gears in my G for quite a while. I originally planned to get a set of the 3.91 gears, but decided to go with the 4.083 gears when it turned out that they would fit my housing, too. The 4.083 gears come OEM in a Nissan Frontier. I've also thought about getting a better diff, so this seemed like the perfect time to swap that out too.

The new 4.083 gears really increase the acceleration in my G. It makes quite a noticeable difference. They definitely up the fun-to-drive number! The mechanical advantage the gears add is more than I expected. The difference in speed in each gear is dropped a bit... 80 miles per hour in sixth gear used to be 3,000 RPM on the tach, now it's 3,400.

The Carbonetics LSD is much quieter than I was expecting. No noise and no clunking when making sharp turns. I haven't broken the diff in yet, so I'll know more about that in the future.

If you love driving your car and shifting, this is the mod for you! If you hate shifting, you probably didn't get a 6mt and this mod is probably not for you. Anyway, I love it!

I don't really know. It's a revup, so I suspect it will still go close to the 155 miles an hour limit.

I don't know... It was an early Christmas present. The diff was the most expensive item, by far... Everything else was pretty reasonable. I decided to use all new bearings, seals, and incidentals, so it was a bit more expensive than normal, maybe...

Thanks, Lyndon. Not much to see except that I did spring for a Nismo rear cover.

Good question.

I haven't tried it yet. I'll try it on the way home from work tonight. It should still work, though.

John, as always it was a pleasure to assist you in this project. Also, a big thanks for your kind words about us!

You car is developing into an extremely well thought out and tasteful project, and we always enjoy seeing it and you. Your genuine enthusiasm for the product and the Club is exciting, and your knowledge is impressive. Take care.

If it's a manual transmission, it has a 3.538 final drive ratio.

If it's an automatic, I think it's around 3.3.

Cruise control works at 65, 75, and 85 miles per hour.

I think it's the automatics that have trouble with CC and lower rear gears.

I think you are right about this. I saw someone on FA talking about it a year ago.
