Suspension install in Jacksonville, FL...any suggestions?!?

All,

I'm new to the Jacksonville, FL area, and I have a set of springs I would like to have installed on my G37S.

I checked around and made some phone calls, and it seems like two of the shops that everyone talks about charge much more than expected for spring installations; Stage 6 said $275-300, and Velocity Trends said around $250-300.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of people have gotten their springs installed for about $150-200, and some even as low as $100. I know times have changed, so I'm willing to do $200 considering that may guarantee quality of work.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!!

give 5th gear a call. Art is the tech over there and he'll get you taken care of. I want to say it will be around $300ish, but they actually can align your car there. Unlike Velocity and Stage6 they have an alignment rack.

Not to mention Art's work is top notch.

Hey man thanks for the reply. I called 5th gear as well when I was researching and they said they only do wheels/tires, but no suspension work ????

Etien, which spings did you go with? I'm still waiting on the true Tein G37 application to come out.

Eibach's all the way! Had them on my G35 and have nothing but great things to say about them. They also seem to give the most appropriate drop for the G37

I am a Nissan/Infiniti Certified tech and 200-300 is by far a great deal. My labor rate is $60 an hour and Id charge an hour per spring. $240..I mean most independant shops charge $75-90an hour. Dealers usually 100 plus, so Id be satisfied with 200 honestly. In the end you get what you for.

an hour per spring?? thats redic.
the rears take about 30 mins total.
fronts i can see taking about 1.5-2 hours total, due to having to use the spring compressor. taking that off and on can be very time consuming.

plus you need to add the alignment too. probably another $75.

if the suspension is anything like the G35, just do it yourself. i do have a buddy at Firestone in Mandarin that might be able to do it as a side job.

Well you can go to the dealer its an hour a side there....but their labor rate is $110! I am just going by what the labor book calls for man. I don't make the book, but I did pay for my degree so I am not going to give away my time.

^obviously you have never installed springs on these cars so you dont know what you're talking about. if a dealer is charging an hour/side = $220 and you charge $60/hr but want $240 you are ripping people off.

5th gear is going out of business and art may have already left.

edit: etien why not do the rears since they are easy and see if you can get it cheaper to do the fronts at a shop?

That's not a bad idea...I know the rears are cake...I would NEVER in my life time pay someone $120 bucks to do the rears lol...I thought that was some sort of joke when I read $60 per spring. That swings well with someone who has no idea what it takes, but for a person who's built an engine like myself, it's rather comical. I'm willing to pay for labor because of the fronts and not having a convenient spring compressor, but not because I don't know what it takes. I did my G35 by hand alone.

So yeah Lyndon...thanks for the advice man. I will see if I can find a shop this week, otherwise I may go partial like you suggested!

Hey, got a G37 yet?

Coming from the guy that wrecked his car? Hey you want suspension? Dude an hour a side at a dealer would be over $400 dollars before tax. I said $60 an hour times 4 hours which is 240. Ive worked on cars for several years, and these cars plenty. Thats not ripping people off!

Dude you're contradicting yourself...on your last post you said an hour a side at the dealer would be over $400 before tax...now read where I just quoted you, and you're saying that an hour would be $110 - in which case, a car has 2 sides correct? So $110x2 = $220. So yes, Lyndon was right, based on your own terms and calculations, you are ripping people off.
