First Time Detail

Well I should say that I have a lot of respect for those who do this for a living or hobby. It's a lot of work. I'm not as happy with my results as I wanted. There are a lot of scratches left, but it looks a LOT better than it did. That's the important part.

These are taken with the crappy iPhone camera.

This is a before pic of my hood with just wash and clay.

This is after one pass with the PC. Yellow pad w/SSR2.5 if anyone is curious.

This is after 2 more passes with the PC and then wax. You can tell how much blacker it looks with the wax.

The trunk lid pic is prolly the best one. There used to be a lot of scratches and marks from where a rain gutter fell on my car.

You can see in the reflection here my next "detailing" job I'm planning.

The iPhone doesn't do it much justice, but the improvements were definitely worth the hard work.

I spent a total of about 9 hours on it. The wash and clay was about 2 hours, and the wax was about 1 hour. The other 6 was polishing.

I ordered my stuff from Detailed Image. I didn't realize we got 10% off if we're a member of g35driver. For next time...

All in all, I think I've removed about 30-40% of the scratches/swirls. The big scratches are just less pronounced and don't stand out as well. I know if I worked on it even more, I would have better results. But not bad for now

I have also used Detailed Image products and have been very satisfied. What compound or product(s) did you use? Looks good.

I ended up being pretty lazy with it for us much more I could have done. I used a yellow pad with Poorboy SSR 2.5 to get some scratches out. I have the SSR 1, but ended up not using it this time.

I actually didn't seal it at all. Just wax. I really wanted to, but forgot to order some. And I couldn't find anything I liked locally. I'm gonna redo the detail a little better in a few weeks and then seal and wax it properly.

Close up or in the sun, you can still see the blemishes, and the front end looks like cr@p. But I can shoot for the show room floor, though!
