scratching/ WHIRR type noise when lightly braking..
First of all. my pads and rotors are not even 4 months old.
I got in my car this morning and while driving... it was fine. The second i engaged the brakes, i heard a faint "WHUUUURRR" from the front of my car, which appeared to get louder the faster i was going (when i engaged the brakes) and how hard i engaged them. When i drove it around for a little... it didn't happen every time. It happened.... 1/2 the time when i engaged the brakes.
I also heard it while braking & turning at the same time.
I inspected the rotors and my drivers side seems to have a deep groove on the outer part of the rotor. I pulled the whole assembly apart tonight and the outside pad also had a groove in it. I took sandpaper to the pad to smooth it out and remove the cut into the pad. The sound was still there...
I cant make the sound happen EVERY time, but it ONLY happens when lightly braking. When i slam my brakes on, i hear nothing. But when i lightly engage the brakes it sounds like i can hear the pads scratching the rotor or something. The sound cannot be heard outside the car, just inside...
Any ideas? Im having my dad help me tomorrow and look at it with me. Hopefully we can fix it, but anything else you think i should look for? How can we diagnose if its a bad wheel bearing?

no problems stopping. Besides the noise, braking is normal. (i even slammed on the brakes to see if it would make another groove and i didnt see anything.... braking power was still impressive)
If it's just noise, I'd say clean everything and grease the back of the pads, pins, etc. I mean, the grease is specifically for silencing brake noise and making everything work better.
the cuts/grooves seem important. looks like something may have gotten between your pads and rotors and damaged them slightly. its gone now but the remaining noise is probably due to the the damage.

noise from the wheel that varies with speed and can be heard when braking is what i had. It seemed most noticeable at low speeds and when turning, like in a parking lot. Bearing was replaced....apparently bearing problems are pretty common with G35's. Dealership knew what it was right away.
You should take it in and let someone listen to the noise.

Will this be covered under warranty? I am lowered so would that cause a problem?
Also, is it bad to drive on a bad bearing? Just curious if I need to borrow someones car to get to school (60 miles round trip)

Noise only came back like 3 times while driving around for a good 15 min... so i have no idea what it could be...
my dad thinks that my CV joints might be messed up...
I guess ill just keep driving it until either something breaks, or until the noise is louder & easier to diagnose.

Noise was very loud while driving at FIRST tonight... then slowly went away. When it was there, it occurred while braking while going straight, AND while braking and turning right (braking and turning happening at the same time) but did not occur while turning left.
I would bring this to the dealership but they will charge me a fee for "diagnostic" if its not under warranty, right?
