Tires

I will need new tires soon and need your opinions. I love the performance of the Pilot Sport's but can't stand the noise. I'm sure I'll have the noise with any tire since we can't rotate them. I may try something else to see if it's any better. Check out the pics and tire chart. I know some of you may think I have too much time on my hands to put this much thought into buying tires but I want to make sure I'm making the best decision.

I've checked pricing from several different sources. I've Analyzed how many miles I should get based on the 25K miles I got from my Pilot Sports. According to UTQGS a 400 rated tire "should" last twice as long as a 200 rated tire. When you look at it from a cost perspective all three tires are about the same price per mile.

1. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
2. Michelin Pilot Sport
3. BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDW NT
4. Kumho Supra

Don't get the A/S (all season) unless you trade your G in for that minivan.

Don't get the BFG Gforce KDW's because there is no groove to help channel water from the center of the tire.

Don't get the Kuhmo Ecsta! They are only a so-so tire that are good if you want to tear them apart quickly (like in auto cross). Plus they're just cheap...

Don't attach redundant WORD documents, it's just poor form.

Leaves you with one option.

What's wrong with them? I've heard nothing but good things about them from everyone as far as thread life, weight, performance in the rain, etc. Maybe do some research on what would be a good track tire too?

Since the NT's don't have a center channel here's 2 alternatives, the KD (1st pic) and Sport (2nd pic).

I guess I need to remove the Pilot Sport A/S's from my car since everyone here says they're crap. I swapped my stock tires at 10k and they were more than 50% gone. I've had my new "useless" tires for 18k and they're at 50% now. I can sacrifice the .02 g I lost in handling for double the tire life.

what about falken grb fk-451, nitto 555, toyo proxes t1s, goodyear eagle f1 (i dont know the exact name of their high performance tires), the new fuzion zri, yokohama (i dont know the exact name of their high performance tires).

im thinking of going with the Falkens for my wheels. i had them on my old car and i didnt have any problems. i just cant imagine the falkens being much different compared to the toyos for the price.

Well the way I see it is that we have a luxury/sports car. If you're concerned with tread life and tread life only, why not just put an "H" rated tire on there and bust out the 80,000 mile tread life?

This vehicle isn't a caravan and if you plan on driving the vehicle you should get the best performance tire available, IMO. There are no stats available on stopping distances when you switch to an all season tire (and I'd question the 0.02G number posted above). FYI, tires do more for your vehicle stopping than the breaks do. Want handling, safety, better gas mileage, quicker acceleration and a lighter tire? Go Pilot Sports and to hell with the tread wear. Want tires for 3-4 years, longer stopping distance, lower performance, etc... get a mini van! Heck, Sean just spent over $2K in go-fast mods for his vehicle, why would he want a heavier, lower performance tire to go along with that?

There is a very good reason why the 6MT coupe's came with Pilot Sports, they were the BEST tire available to get the BEST performance out of the G. YMMV.

My .02 Forget rhymin' at those tires . Drop it like its hot. If price was no option go wit tha Michelin. My recomendizzles is ta look at Dunlop Direzza Dz101.

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into some of the other tires you recommended. I don't want to sacrifice performance but I obviously want the tire to last as long as possible with the least amont of road noise (if that's even possible). The Pilot Sport's lasted longer than I expected but it sounds like I'm driving a truck with huge tires.
