Stock exhaust with FI
Stock exhaust with FI
I'm looking to go FI and want to know if it is possible to keep the stock exhaust with that kind of setup. It might sound stupid, but I came from a WRX with Apex exhaust and I don't want to go anywhere near that (ridiculously loud). I want to keep it as quiet as possible.
I think the Stillen exhaust is pretty quiet, but I would search. Some people do have setups they are happy with looking for similar results.
As far as keeping the stock exhaust...that is just dumb!
Air in=Air out....With s/c or turbo setup bringing more air into the engine it needs to be able to come out in a larger capacity. You will be hurting your power potential by bottle-necking the last step in the process. You can run the car stock with the exhaust, but that is like exhaling through a straw!

I difinitely recommend Stillen Exhaust with F/I setup, I currently have FX35 with Powerdyne Supercharger (Going to replace with VRT TT pretty soon
) Stillen is only loud for first couple of weeks and it settles. I don't think it's outrageous.

you def need aftermarket exhaust with FI set up or else your jepordizing a lot of power and if your going to lay out that kind of money then theres no point...........there are plenty of exhausts that arent too loud like stillen and APS

You don't have to change your exhaust right away. Most kit are made using the stock exhaust when release and advertised power are with Stock exhaust. Turbonetics ST is a good example, they released their stage one kit using stock exhaust and when people installed them with aftermarket exhaust, they all had over boost spike (it has been resolved). Bottom line, if you're looking for stock boost and don't want to get overboard then stock exhaust will be fine for now. but when you decide to go to the next level then an exhaust if pretty much a must.
I've got the 2.5" APS true dual. It is definitely quiet. I feel that my exhaust is quieter throughout the entire rpm band unless I'm WOT.
That being said, yes you can stay stock, you just might not reap the full benefits of the FI system without it.

also consider that some FI systems seem to do worse without OEM exhaust. i think the safest route is to decide on which FI system you want, then speak with the manufacturer about what effects an exhaust would have.
yeah it's fine to run the stock exhaust/cats
you'll have more midrange torque and heat build up though which could be bad, but if you're not going for big power it should hold up ok
just changing the exhaust and cats out though would reduce some midrange torque, but add a lot more upper range torque/power and get the heat out of the engine easier

APS 3" Exhaust - Quiet
I had a ride in GRD's G35 with the APS TT and the APS 3" exhaust. It was very quiet, sounding just about like stock to me. Unfortunately, the price was pretty salty.
