Vortech's kit really has a bypass valve, not a blow-off valve. The difference is the bypass is always open under vaccum. I would suggest upgrading to something like a greddy type-s. That way you won't have the jet-engine-like whistle during normal cruising.

Thanks - I'll be looking into something like that

Changing the BOV on superchargers is not a wise idea. Do some searches and you will see. There is a reason they use a by-pass valve type BOV and not the ones made for turbo cars. The constint boost in the blower will cause the blower to fail and require rebuilds if not just blowing the whole thing.

I know for a fact that ATI recomends you do not change to other BOV due to the added pressure it puts on the gears and what not that damages the blower.

Yes it sounds better but if you want to trade sounding cool over paying $1000-2500 for a new blower... Good Luck!

Me too. I also like the stock bypass valve/blow off valve for my kit. It's loud, long, and functional.

Never had any problems on either my ATi or my Vortech that I had on mustangs back in the mid 90s. Neither bower needed to be rebuilt! This was a trick that alot of the mustangs guys in the Miami area picked up on. We were close withe the Import guys at Dynamic Turbo, and they suggested trying the Greddy Type-S BOV inplace of the bypass valve on these kits.

I agree I know of only a few people with problems caused by this but I was told over and over again by ATI's tech's not to change it. I still want to put an HKS cuz it sounds so much better but the stock does its job and is lound so it wont be changing anytime soon.

If you want to see some Bypass v. BOV debates, head over to a Subaru forum. They come stock w/ a turbo bypass valve, but are often switched. It causes heated debates.

I switched mine and the whistles go whooooooooooo!
