APS TT actuator upgrades?

Hi. Just got back from a dyno tune with Utec and GReddy Profec BC, however the tuner managed to pull out 391 rwhp on a built block (8.5 cp wiseco and GTM rods). I know it's a bit low... but it's still fun. However, I am really disappointed because of the cashflow onto the project. Numbers don't seem to add up? I want 500, dammit!

Tuner says the turbo actuators from APS are not providing higher boost. Right now, the car is running about 8 psi. I know Forge actuators are a great upgrade, but is it even necessary to hit 500 rwhp?

If it isn't, i'll seek another tuner... otherwise, it's time to add more money to the project.

thanks in advance.

You should be able to hit 12psi on the stock APS actuators. This should yeild about 450whp on a lower comprerssion bottom end with stock heads and cams.

I agree. The forge actuators come with two springs, a 5-10 and a 10-15 when you wanna go crazy. IMO it's worth doing.

How much boost do you want to run? If you run APS test pipes with a low back pressure exhaust system (APS true dual 2.5'' exhaust) you can easily run 12 psi from the base actuators. After that you will need to upgrade the base actuators.

i want to hit 500 rwhp. the HKS Ti dual is about 2.37" TD, which is not much of a difference to the smaller APS TD. I am also using test pipes as well.

thanks for the info though!

You need to consider tube size and the muffler design, get either wrong and you will end up with high exhaust back pressure which definitely impacts on the amount of boost and power/torque possible from any given turbocharger.
