stillen s/c owners,a question

have any of you bypassed the small pulley that stillen supplied with the kit for the power steering-alt belt.its the small pulley next to the power steering pump.if so did you have any luck with using the stock belt with no noise problems.my little pulley is squealing like a pig,and id rather not wait for a new one,or pay for it either.

Mine started squeaking about a month ago. I took it off and cleaned it and then re-lubed it with penetrating lube and WD40 and have not had a problem since.

I have thought about bi-passing it. From what I know you just might have some belt slippage issues in the high rpm's.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

I also thought about trying Gatorback belts and removing that idler pulley to see if it could hold on. I am not even sure if they make the right size but they probably do.

I don't know if this will help, but my idler pulley was also squealing. Sam at Stillen suggested that I take brake cleaner and spray one by one each pulley and belt and see if the squeal goes away. Well, I did this and guess what? It was that stinking idler pulley. I took out my rachet and losened the bolt 1/2 turn. The squeak went away. I think that my idler pulley was to tight all along. I took it for a drive and it didn't return. I wil continue to drive this car and keep you updated.

turns out it was the tensioner idler pulley(factory one) down at the bottom.put a new one in and noise is gone, what a pita when having to use car ramps.i hate that damn cover underneath, thats the hardest part of the whole thing.

Yeah that cover is a pain. I have a skew driver on my drill; it is a right angle adapter for the drill so that makes it much easier.

I have a slight chirp squeal on mine already and when I spoke with Sam, he told me if the tensioner pulley is tightened too much the dust cover over it will give a chirp like squeal. He said some people have taken it off. mine isn't that bad to where it is driving me nuts but i want to do something now before it gets bad enough. i am going to loosen it and see if that works.

The one time I had it was not like a squeal, it was more of a chirp, chirp, chirp... it changed speed with the speed of the belt/rpm but never went away. It was not too loud and I could not hear it with the windows up but it was still annoying.

FL-G35 you might try loosening the belt just a little (~1/4 turn) and see it it goes away.

not because you wanted more power, but because how awesome this kit was supposed to be, then you decide that you were going to get rid of the kit.

I haven't even had a good 100 mile stretch of smooth running with this thing.

Well, at first is was a squeal at just start up. Then the squeal would go away and a chirping sound would start. I think these two issues are separate issues. I decided to take some brake cleaner and spray the belts while the engine was running, and I found out that the chirping sound was coming from the little black idler pulley from stillen for the alternator and ps. I turned off the motor and loosed the bolt that holds the little idler pulley thinking that maybe the bolt was too tight. I started up the car and the chirping sound was gone. I drove it for a day and everything was great. The next day I started up the car and the same belt squeal at startup was there. The next day, I started up the car and the initial belt squeal at startup was NOT THERE. But then it started to squeal for a good 5-10 seconds after the car was running for 30 seconds or so. Now everytime I start the car after it cools down, I am getting the 5-10 second belt squeal AFTER the car has been running for about 10-15 seconds. I have looked at all the belts and it looks like they are tracking fine. I just don't know if which belt would be making that noise. I don't think tht the brake cleaner trick will work on it. I probably need to get some contact spray and see which one goes away.

I hope this narrows it down.
