Overall Verdict?????
I spoke w/ Mark at SGP again, and he is really partial to the Greddy.
I stated that it is less technologically advanced (IE non-Garret ball bearing) and he responded that he has had way more problems w/ the Garret turbos than the ones that Greddy usues. Plus the Greddeys are much larger and have much greater power potential. Mark says that SGP...which has tons of experience w/ the Greddy system has refined their own process of installing them and he thinks that they will be best for big power.
Since I am going to build the engine and upgrade everything else (probably going to go for it...HKS V_PRO) I am going to go w/ Marks recommendation.
I am going to install the V-Pro and my test pies/exhaust next week, and in about 8 months build the engine and install the Greddy TT.

If you want a Monster then Greddy IMHO is the kit you want. but go ask other shop coz most shop will recommend kit that they work on. I think SGP are expert on their field and I would trust them but I would go do some more searching.
I agree.....from a purely technical standpoint. the Garret (IE ball bearing) TT should be better. However, Marks real world experience has been much better with the Greddy, so that is probably what I will use.
Another issue is the size of the APS TT (small). Then again, right now I only want to go about 420 whp..of course that may change...lol.

You guys need to consider the bias that one shop will have with any given kit.
I'm not saying anyone is "wrong" with what they say, ..... but give me a friken break! Why are people with the Greddy kit that are getting "serious" about making power having their turbos rebuild (into a 60-1, etc).
Or they are getting the APS Extreme Kit, ... or how about the SFR kit???
To say that Garrett turbos are less reliable than one of Greddy's turbos is just plain silly. I'm sure that sgp gets a killer deal on Greddy products, ... and just have a personal preference to that kit b/c they talor it to what they feel is best. Also, the turbos with the standard APS kit are good for over 600HP!
You want people's opinion's? ... how about starting with the manufacturer and work down the food chain. Email Peter at APS and see what he has to say about the comment about Garrett turbos, ....... or how about this, ... look at the TOP racers around the world, ... what turbos are they using????
The point is, ... all of the kits on the market have their good sides and not-as-good sides. Don't expect to buy one kit and not have to buy anything extra. IF you can not do the install yourself and are going to have a shop do it, find a Reputable shop that's close enough to you and have them do the work, use what they know, ... and as you can see, that will have an effect of which kit you go with. The biggest part of a reliable setup is proper installation and Tuning! So if you don't skimp out there, you'll be fine.

And that is why I am going to go w/ SGP's recommendation of the Greddy...they are only 40 minutes from me.
If Mark and I can come to an agreement that the APS is better for me, then I will go w/ that system.
They are giving me a very good price on the Greddy, though

yeah, I do believe that having a Good shop do the work and tuning is the most important choice out of all the choices anyone will make.
You could have the best parts out there, and if they are installed or tunned improperly, ... it is ****.
Just look at the post MRC posted about someone getting screwed by some other shop, ... they turned a perfectly good Greddy kit into garbage!!
Crazy! MRC has their work cut out for them fixing that mess....
... all that said, ... I am the type of person that will decide on what parts "I" want, ... and then go from there. I do not like it when people try to change my mind b/c they say one part is better than another b/c of their personal preference. I've been invloved in the aftermarket for over 10 yrs now though, ... so it helps to already know what's what when it comes to parts. It is hard for someone just getting into modding to find out facts now-a-days, ... So many forums, So many opinions!! Back in the day, when the internet was young, lol, the Temple of VTEC was the best site for mods!
Going with the Greddy kit will definitely be a little less expensive than the APS kit, ... b/c a lot of shops can cut your price down by not including the eManage and other parts you wouldn't need, or would replace anyway, ... which is a sweet deal...

Right,
I am swapping out the EU for an HKS....either the V-Pro or the IS...I am leaning towards just going for it $ wise) and getting the V-PRO. In fact, I am having my exhaust, test pipes and enging management installed next week. Of course I will also have SGP tune it. In around 6-8 months I will have an upgraded short block rebuild and the TT installed.
So, should I drop the money for the V-PRO? I have heard that the realiability and engine smoothness are worth the 3+K for this system.

If you have the money, and are going FI ... I think the V-Pro is the way to go!
That or the Magnetti Marelli (sp?) PnP system that Injected Performance came out with. But again, it comes down to who you are close to, and I know that SGP is an HKS Pro Dealer and works with Jon Kuroyama (from HKS) himself as far a tuning goes....
If i can afford it, i will use the V-Pro when the time comes...

Thanks, No Limit....I have been on the fence, but I think I will go for it and get the V-PRO next week when I have the test pipes and exhaust installed.
That will probably run near 4K (already bought exhaust/test pipes) which is all I can afford at the moment. In 6-7 months I can afford the build/TT.
By then, hopefully I will decide on the TT.
I am partial to the APS, but as mentioned SGP just loves the Greddy. I don't want to **** them off and not have them put 100% into my build/install/tune.

Sean,
Go with the V-Pro.. You dont want the IS as it seems to be more 'bling' than anything else.. Have not seen it in person, THAT IS WHAT I AM HEARING.
I started on page 2 of this thread and saw that you were getting your engine built.. Why only go 420whp?? Or did I miss something?
