got a little taste of my car today....

I got my motor built about month ago and I finally decide to go to TOPSPEED(located in GA) to get my car tuned with UTEC(unfortunately i didnt have an external maf sensor).... first, they installed UEGO A/F gauge and then we started to tune my car.... Doug, tuner asked me how much power i was expecting so i told him around 350whp and 400 tq at 12psi....
So we set up the boost at 12psi and we ran the dyno. car was doing great but then it would shut off at 4500rpm.. he said i might need to get an external maf sensor and after gettin a MAF sensor, he said it will be safe to shoot at 16 psi....
here is my conclusion...
at 12psi/ 4500RPM
my car did 350whp and 410 tq......(running Shell 93oct)
I wanted to see my rpm going all the way to redline but oh well.......(my new redline is at 7300rpm)
i will try to post up the dyno sheet after i get my real tune done....

here are my specs:
wiesco pistons, crower rods, ferrera valves, springs, locater, lockand some more ferra parts but i cant remember top of my head), JWT cams,
techno square ECU reflash, now running UTEC. JIC-magic y-pipe,JIC-Magic titanium turbo exhaust, with PE twin turbo kit.....

350whp at 12psi? That seems way too low. Heck, I did 449whp at around 10psi. 12psi should be close to 500whp.

Oh, I get it. that was only at 4,5000rpm...

sounds like your tuner doesn't know the UTEC very well.

He needs to be tuning it off of the MAP sensor, bot the MAF. When you use the MAP, it doesn't use the MAF when you are in boost.

Post a log of your parameter file! that way we can tell you which parameters need to be changed so that you can tune it properly.

You went with a tuner in Georgia and it wasn't Forged Internals?! They have Z/G customers from all over the South, East and Midwest driving several hours for Sharif (owner) to just tune them!

Doug at TopSpeed is a very highly respected tuner.

really, never heard of him.....anyone else know who this Dough guy is?
I 2nd the above post, if you are anywhere near GA. No one but Sharif should touch your car, but the only alternative would be Z1 performance in Carrollton. Sharif is deffinately the only one who touches my car though.

if you don't want to post up your paramater file for your UTEC, read though the manul carefully. It even sates that you'll max out your MAF with only about 6psi by the time you hit 4000+ rpm......isn't that what happened to you.

again, it sounds like your tuner has your UTEC setup in a manner that is the best for a forced induction G/Z.

This is the section from the UTEC Manual I was referring to:

10. Fuel Mode allows you to switch between MAF sensor based fuel tuning or Speed Density
based fuel tuning.
MAF fuel mode allows you to tune fuel “piggyback stye” by offsetting the incoming MAF
voltage (+/ -) to add or take away fuel to change the Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR). This mode
works well for naturally aspirated applications.
SPEED DENSITY fuel mode is highly recommended for all forced induction vehicles. This is
because the factory Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) will be maxed out as early as 4750rpm at
6 psi boost pressure. Once the MAF is maxed out, there is no way to control the fuelling
via MAF offset. A TurboXS MAP Sensor is required to use this mode. Fuel is than tuned
by entering the desired injector pulse width multiplied by ten into each cell in the UTEC
fuel map. For example, if you want a 9.3 millisecond injector on time in a certain cell, you
enter 9.3 x 10 or 93 into the fuel map. This allows for very precise fuel control even with
large injectors at very low loads.

Well, the low hp is obviously due to the low rpms, but 410 ft-lbs at 12 PSI is pretty low as well. My JWT gets 355 ft-lbs at 6 PSI...

If he was talking about the MAF voltage, then yes. You need to get the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. Like QuadCam quoted from the UTEC manual, the MAF is maxed out. You are not only running very low HP for your potential (even at 6 PSI), but also running dangerously, since once the MAF is maxed out, there is no way for the UTEC to really figure out how much actual air is going in.

I'm suprised that whoever built your engine didn't say anything about this.

Don't have any problems with my UTEC @8psi tuned by Tony at UMS Tuning in Phoenix. It runs like a champ.
