5at coupe question...general though
5at coupe question...general though
Okay folks, here is the deal. Eventually I want to put the aps single turbo unit in the car. The question is since they said the at will need some strengthening to do that, what should I get strengthened? I didn't get the stick because that's all I've owned, and cruising up and down 295 everyday for the past few years has made me sway to an auto. So I'm not sure what I would need to strengthen there. So please let me know what type of work would be required for the tranny to handle 400hp? Haha I know this might sound Paris Hilton gay...but ...http://www.z1motorsports.com/350_g35...fb0405a29a51c1
So if I bought this I wouldn't need to get say the aps tall boy plenum or something like the mrev2 right?

I think your safe with the trans.....it is basically the same trans used in the M45.
As far as engine internals, you should check in the forced induction forum.
Most people do the bottom end of the engine over....rods crank pistons, etc.
If you do a search, there were a few people who had major failure as a result of pushing the stock engine.....
Good luck

Thanks,if I did the turbo, which I will haha, at this rate by the time I get done I will be living in the car, thank god for heated seats for winter. I would get the forged internals,I don't want to melt my engine,I will keep posting pics as I go along.
for rwhp over 360-380 you should get a VB upgrade and tranny cooler. that should hold you to around 500 whp. above that is an unknown...
as for engine, if you're going to pass the above threshold (about 380 whp), most would recommend an engine build.

Not sure what your current mods are, but you will also want a free-er flowing exhaust, gauges, new headers, and ditch that Unichip.
For any FI on an AT, a VB upgrade is recommended. The 5AT shifts like a granny and it will prolong the life of your tranny.
If above 400whp is your goal, then you are entering a whole new world. You will need to build your engine (~8k) with forged pistons and rods, new headgaskets, a better cooling solution, fuel return, much bigger injectors...etc. An ST would also be a waste when building an engine. If you're going to build, go TT. TT kits are not that much more expensive than ST's and you will save money on labor because the engine will already be out.
For more info, you can check my myspace in my sig for my current engine built. All of my components are listed. I also have a 5AT.
Hope this helps...

go to MRC instead...
Okay,ty all for your information. So what about the greedy kit, would you use that or no.Ironically it's cheaper at Z1 than the st aps kit. I would probably go to mrc being that it's in jersey. Just the other end of jersey, but if they are good. I will take it there, just so I can save myself from the same disaster as some of the others on the board.
