Post Building motor for TT

Making my G35 a summer project for 450-480HP daily driver. Cant choose over APS TT or JWT TT thinking about purchasing a short block from http://turbokits.com/g35_turbo_kits.html the Desc: 3.5L - 3.7L Built VQ Block for $4495.00. Rather do it right the first time and not have a BLOWN my motor...
Once motor is built... I shouldn't have no worry about problems right ?

It is always a worry but a built short block will make it 100X safer. Make sure and get a good tune!

Also why not the Greddy? When you add a good management (like UTEC), blow off valve and complete fuel return (like CJ) it's an awesome kit and IMO more complete than the JWT or APS.

Holy crap, thats one expensive block.

Seems a little too much if you're only willing to push 480 out of it. These things can handle much more than 480.

So, I'd look for something cheaper if you only want 480 out of it.

Check out SGP http://sgpracing-store.stores.yahoo.net/sgpravqmo.html

They have many short & long blocks, and some deals are awesome.

Personally, I would get this pack: Basic short block: $3999 + $2200 core - Good up to 550 Rwhp

So, after you send them your core block back, they would refund you 2200 and you would have only spent $1800 total.

But then again, im not FI expert. I just know the basics.

I'm not 100% on this but I believe you would pay $6,199 and get the $2,200 back once they got your core.

That is why it says "plus core".

SGP is a great place, I have spoken to Mark a number of times and I got my Greddy kit from them.

nah... pistons and rods cost 1500 total, depending on the setup. also need to charge in the actual block, boring, honing, use of torque plate and whatnot and various labor. costs way more than i anticipated when i got my built block... but what can i say? i am truly happy.

That's IF you have someone build it for you. You're right, though, it's the labor you're paying for, not the parts. Parts are relatively cheap. You can save a decent amount of money by buying a premade short block from Z built motors or SGP. Also remember R&R of your original motor, unless you can take it out and apart yourself.

Pistons and rods are more than $1500 in most cases. That will cover Eagle rods and a few piston choices. If you get the good ones they are more ~$2k.

I think "good ones" are a matter of opinion. Arias and Eagle have proven the test of time for many years and unless you're going >700whp, you don't need the Pauter, Cosworth, etc.

I agree but they are the only ones even near that price and I have seen a few fail. Not on the VQ but on two SRT-4's in the last 12 months. I'm not saying I would not buy them, just that $1500 is low for any other choice.
