Any suggestions on preference for a 2005 Coupe 6MT?

What exactly do you mean by "better"?

That can mean a ton of things. Better for one person might be power output, while better for another person might be hp-per-dollar, efficiency, less maintnance, etc.

Turbonetics = single turbo kit for the VQ engine.

 

Better meaning:
- performance
- reliability
- less wear & stress to the engine
etc.

 

There isn't a "better" kit...it's just what do people prefer?

Do you want to spend a little more money on a TT kit? There's plenty of power to be had. If you build your motor down the road, the TT will most likely be able to handle your hp needs. The install is a little more.

The Turbonetics is easier to install. The kit will make anywhere from 350-400whp, depending on what boost you want to run. My car is making 340/360 on 8psi currently. The Turbonetics kit doesn't have much room for upgrading, so if you are looking for some serious power down the road...a TT kit would be your better option.

I've had both, get a ride similarly modded cars except the kit and decide. Like 98 said, only problem with the TN kit, is that you might be wanting more later when there isn't really much room to upgrade.

My personal little pro's and con's.

TN kit

Not much room for more power.
Cheaper + cheaper/easier to install.
Looks good under the hood.
The spool sound is great.
Dun worry about lag, its not really there...

Greddy kit

More expensive (Not too much) + More expensive/harder install.
Fit and finish isn't as nice (not much bling if thats what you like).
Shouldn't run the kit right out of the box, need more supporting mods for piece of mind.
Dun worry about lag either, its really not there...
But its got the potential for lots of power.

There's other little things but those are my deciding factors. Good Luck!

 

Appreciate the feedback- it doesn't appear there is not any significant negatives with either turbo other than all out power is more in the TT.

Which is harder on the engine? Do either stress the engine harder; more oil burn etc.?

 

neither really stresses the engine any more than the other... you're best bet is take 2slo2bfurious's advice and find out local members of the boards that have the setups that you are curious about... take a ride in both and look under the hood, see which one you like. where are you located anyway?

 

also as far as the oil burning issue is concerned- i can only answer for the turbonetics kit; haven't seen one that burned more oil... every customer that comes back for regular maintenance have been pretty consistent with the oil levels, you do know that the stock VQ burns oil regardless right?

well definitely, shouldnt be a problem then... but just remember with the Greddy Kit you will need a lot of supporting mods to get your car running right/ safely. The Turbonetics kit is pretty safe out the box... plus y'all dont have much weather change over there compared to us in the northeast. So if you were going to ride out the stock motor, you're better off with the turbonetics kit or you can also look into the JWT TT kit.

 

What type of gains am I looking @ with the Turbonetics or JWT? Would you recommend a Vortec SC?

 

All similar out of the box.... JWT (530) probably has the most potential out of the three but is also much more expensive....

 

if you go greddy...dump the e-manage for a utec or f-con and get a fuel return system and you'll be good. i've heard that the TN kit has a problem with overboost even after the relocation pipe but not sure....search that for accuracy?!?!
