cost of building a motor?

I am planning on going FI in the near future. I will probably be starting off around 400-450 whp. I am not sure if a built engine is needed at these power levels, but I would be able to enjoy FI a lot more if I knew that I didn't have much chance of blowing the motor.

Can anyone give me an approximate number of how much it would cost to build the engine? Thanks

for that power TT with a decent build will be at least $15k+. Where are you located? GTM do sell built block or you can have your shop build one for you.

GT Motorsports is definitely a shop getting a lot of recognition and props. Sam is the man at building and tuning FI'd VQs. My G is there as we speak. SGP and VRT haven't had the best reps lately. But to each his own. They have put out a lot of fast cars and a lot of people swear by them. I did reserach on my own for about a year before I actually pulled the trigger. Definitely research this and make a decision based on your own findings. Regardless, you are easily looking at over $15k for a built motor and FI. Probably closer to $20k actually once you throw in all of the other misc. things that you will need. Good luck.

For the BASICS, and I mean not a fully built motor, you are looking at atleasst 5k. Basics as in changing out the stock pistons, rods, cams, etc.

A fully built engine will put a bullet through your wallet. (Some installers will not be financially easy going).

I think 400 whp is fine with the stock block as long as its installed & tuned properly... but its still a matter of time before something goes wrong.

They are going on my A pillar but not on an A pillar pod. They will be mounted individually. I saw another G there with the gauges mounted like that and it looks crazy. I'll post pix when I get my G back.

Hmmm. I always thought a Vortech only took a couple of days to install. I've seen some do that & tuned in 2 days. GTM must be really busy

Wow, over 10 days without the G. So how does it feel... again?

It's cool bro. Yeah they are very busy. If you go to GTM and see how many cars they have there, you will be like . But you gotta remember, they are doing the Vortech install, along with 3 Defi gauges and a link unit, the Innovate afr gauge and tuning. Normally it wouldn't take 2 weeks but I can't pick it up until Saturday anyways so it's all good. I prefer for them to take their time and make sure everything is perfect. BTW, I am driving a 2006 IP 6MT coupe in the meantime so even though I don't have my G, I still am driving a G.
