Bad split second box?

So I bought a used Vortech kit...the guy that I bought it off of had electrical problems & fried his ECU & Split second, so he had to buy a new ECU & split second. He uninstalled the vortech and never got around to reinstalling it, so his used split second box was never tested. I've installed the kit now, and the box isn't letting the car run right. *in safe/limp mode* Haven't taken it to a tuner yet to see if it just needs to be reflashed, but what are the chances of this? Any suggestions? I might just spring for a UTEC...or possibly an emanage ultimate.

When my SS box died it would not let me start the car at all, the only way I found out that it was the SS box was when we unplugged it from the ecu and the car started right away. I went ahead and changed up to the Unichip.
The SS box had died on me, I just sent it back and got a new one but never installed it, later I sold it and it worked.

So you sent it back to Split Second or who? Did you have to pay to get a new one?

Yeah I sent it back to split second as it was still under warrenty, they sent me a new one for free due to this one just failed and was not worth fixing. I had the shop send it back as they were real friendly with the company.

This is the perfect excuse to go UTEC or Unichip Moog.

Yeah I'm thinking UTEC is probably my best bet. Still reading up on it...

At some point, I'll probably go with the UTEC myself.

Will, do the Utec. I went from the SS box to the Utec and has been the best decion ive made. So easy to tune, which saved me some money rather than trying to retune the SSbox. Just make sure you get a good price. We also just installed a vortech w/ the UTEC on a guys car here. Runs great. Good luck.

Got the used SS box from SKYLINE_GT and put it in tonight...car runs good. Need to get it retuned for my car. I would have gone UTEC but couldn't justify spending $800 or so right now.

My idle is a bit low now...at a stop its around 600-650rpm. How do you go about raising the idle? I know w/ a plug in tool...would tuners have this tool?

Your referring to the Cipher tool I think, not sure if shops have it though. Dealers can do it in a few minutes and it may be cheap.

I actually decided to go with the HKS FCon iS. It is not as expensive as the FCon stand alone and offers much more resolution and flexibility than the UTEC. Plus it is compatible with the FCon stand alone if I ever decide to go in that direction.

Moog, could you pm me the name of the person you got the SS box from if he is on the boards? I'm curious as to what type of electrical problems he had that would cause him to fry both the ECU and SS box.
