Supercharging AT Sedan

I need some input, Im tempted to supercharge my 03 sedan with a vortech kit. My sedan has some bolt ons but no major work. Also I have over 100k on the motor and tranny which is 5AT. Should I take this risk of blowing my engine and tranny?? I know the kit if tuned good and not abused is safe, but with 100k how safe will it be? I dont drive the car that much maybe 300miles a week but it is my daily driver, I purchased the car with that milage. I always wanted a supercharged car and have the funds to do it im just wondering if I should wait for something with less miles to do it. Thanx for the input.

You need to decide if the risk is worth it to you. A Vortech with a mild tune should be just fine on the VQ but nothing is perfect and there is always a risk.

I know someone with a lot more miles than you and their G is still running strong. I would make sure that you stay up to date on maintainence because that is the key.

I have done the maintainence most myself, the car runs strong and the tranny is smooth, most miles are I guess hwy miles by last owner. Im little worried about tunning the car in CT I dont know any shops that do supercharger tunning. I can install it myself just the tune is what Im worried, whats involved with tunning do I need a dyno run or will the car be ok running after the initial install??

I just turboed mine from VinnyTenRacing which he gets customers from all across the country. he built a auto 350z with a vortech and he runs 12.8 all day long with no issues. I would call Alex at VTR to help you out with any questions.

i would do it. don't dog it out exept when you need it. 100k is not a lot of milage. i would buy some little pickup or civic for my daily driver and mod the crap out of the g.

If you get the vortech full kit than you wont need any tunning. just use vortechs piggy back ecu and your good to go.

problem with that is that you wont be too fast.

second option is to send the car to long island @ VTR. you will have a fast and reliable car. only issue is the downtime and expense of shipping it

The VTR automatic vortech was making a joke out of all the other F/I cars running consistant 12.8s all freaking day long

One thing to consider is your model year: 03. The first xxx number of sedans produced are referred to as Type I sedans; everything after are Type II. I don't know specifically how to determine if you have a Type I or Type II; I do know it's not as simple as looking for the doggy door trunk. Some 03.5's are still Type I sedans.

I mention this because I know the ECU's in the 03 sedans did some funny things and didn't take to well to simpler piggybacks like the split second box that comes with the full vortech kit. With you're miles, I recommend spending some extra cash on a better piggy back and an extremely safe tune. It won't be the fastest forced induction sedan, but still much better than stock. But that's where your ecu comes into play. I know that the ecu's in the Type I do not work with some piggy back systems, like the Unichip.

The bottom line is that you need to do some more research, specifically about your own car.

I would like to keep the car as a daily driver, I really dont drive it that much b/c im working away from home all the time, 2-3 weeks at the time. I think ill be happy with just a basic tune with 3.12 pulley maybe upgrading the piggyback. Im really tempted to buy this black SC kit for $2800. Thanx for the info guys

How many ribs for the 3.12 pulley? I'm thinking of upgrading.
