Unhappy My supercharger went bad. :(

I just got a call from Sam @ GTM and it looks like my supercharger went bad. So it looks like my G will be out of comission for at least a couple of weeks. They are going to take the SC off and send it to Vortech to get fixed. Luckily it is under warranty and GTM is going to take care of it for me. That's one of the advantages of letting a shop like GTM do your work. Because I bought everything from them, they are going to take care of everything for me. Oh well, **** happens. Hopefully Vortech won't take too long to fix my SC and I will be back on the road ASAP.

Good luck!

Thanks John. Yeah, I know GTM will take care of me. Sam called me at 9pm to tell me what is up with my car. I can't believe he was still at the shop at 9pm. But then again, he is always there late. But you are right, it's just the waiting part that's really gonna suck.

Sup Jay. Well, I could tell cuz the SC was making a weird sound. Not like the normal whining sound. At first it wasn't too loud but on Saturday is when it went really bad. It was like a metal on metal noise. The impeller must have been making contact with the housing. Oh well. Sam said he doesn't see too many SC's go bad but it does happen. It's under warranty though.

Having my first superchargered car in 1969 has taught me to always have a total spare kit on hand.

Early radial superchargers lasted about 1 year before needing an overhaul. Modern technology has allowed a doubling or tripling of life.

Just to be sure, set aside 25% of kit cost as annual mainteance expense.

Jay-Yeah, thank god for the warranty and for GTM taking care of everything. I just gotta wait for Vortech to send back the SC for GTM to re-install it so I can pick up my ride. Total down time should be a couple of weeks at least though.

martyg35 and ludecrasher-She will be back soon and better than before!

Viet-Yeah, I knew when I went FI that I would probably have to deal with stuff like this. I just didn't know it would happen so soon. BTW, I got my GReddy Evo TT. What a bada$$ exhaust!

Lazee-I was hoping that my case was only the jackshaft also. Unfortunately for me, it turned out to be the actual SC.

Q45tech-That's not a bad idea. I might have to look into buying a spare SC for the future, just in case. Even if it is a used one. If something like this ever happened again, I could just temporarily swap out SC's while the messed up one was being fixed.

AthenG-Vortech will try to fix mine first. If it can't be repaired, then they will send out a new one. I don't have a problem with them fixing my SC as long as it is done right.

617G-T-trim? haha! Maybe someday.

CruisinGcoupe-This is exactly the reason that I didn't mind paying a little bit more to have GTM do all of the work on my G. They are taking care of everything. All I have to do is wait for my car to be done and pick it up when it is ready.
