Possibly Going FI, Can I do the install?

Hey Guys, I have a lift and amateur mechanical experience, sway bars, exhaust, intakes, etc. Nothing like this before. I was considering going with the Greddy TT kit, or the Vortech kit with the Group Buy. Do you guys think me and my buddies could do this project?

How hard are injectors to change? Are they just on the fuel lines?

Do I need to drop the engine to do the Greddy TT install or is there ample room to perform the install?

Any help is appreciated, my cousin has a 2nd gen eclipse with a 1st gen motor that he did the swap in, he will be one of the people helping me install it.

thanks!

You can do the install yourself if you have time and patience and the knowledge. You don't need to drop the motor to do the installbut you do have to remove the front bumper and wheels to do the Greddy TT kit.

You dont HAVE to drop out the engine but talk to most shops, they pretty much all drop the engine out

Anyone know what an avg install would cost? And then a tune (seperate pls)

I think I will try the install and if I don't think I can complete it without dropping the engine I'll undo what I did and take it to a shop haha.

Anyone know how hard injectors are to change in the G?

Install takes anywhere from 14-18 hours and most shops charge 85-105 per hour so you can do the math...tune probably another 400-500. Again, it depends on the shop's labor rate.

Both kits are user installable with general mechanic experience or abilities. The Vortech is the easiest to do, and would only require the front bumper to be removed to install the after cooler.

Injectors are easy, but you need to be careful with the clips.

There are some kits out there for sale, used, that would make great deals. Sorry to be self serving, but I'm one of those selling a kit.

A shop would most likely charge $2000 - $3000 for install and tune.

I installed my STS ST kit in my garage w/ jack stands (I know the Greddy is way different). The injectors are not that difficult to install. The fuel pump is kinda a PITA. You mention that u have some mechanical knowledge.

Ask superchargedG, he did his own install on the Greddy Twins w/out dropping the engine.

A standard Vortech install runs anywhere from about $1,000 - $1,500. It depends on what you want done. If your doing an oil pan spacer, Walbro, injectors and an EMU other than the box the Vortech comes with - you're closer to the $1,500. A tune should run you $300 - $500.

The Walbro dos suck - I have a full sending unit for sale though - if anyone is interested - Walbro installed, regulator drilled and chassis holes drilled - ready to swap into car - you get to keep your stock one too just in case or to sell.

The Vortech can be installed by yourself. The kit comes with great instructions and pictures. I did mine myself, but I took my time at. It fired up on the first crank and has been running great for over 1 1/2 years. Since you have a lift it will be much easier then what I had to do.
Afterwards I did take and had it dyno tuned.

Pics pics pics!!! I plan on doing a vortech install...one of these years.

For those who did their own install, did you connect the charger up then get it tuned...or leave it disconnected and have a shop finish/tune?

I installed the kit fully, then drove it down to get tuned. If you upload a base map and limp the car to the tuner (not revving past 2-3k rpms), you will be fine.
