Stillen Supercharger. What Oil Weight?

Hey guys, just wanted everyone's input as to what oil weight to run for maximum protection but still have the adequate pressure for cams and fuel ecnomony.

I know on turbo's we generally go with a heavier weight b/c of the direct oil contact with the turbo's heat for cooling/lubricating.

But on a unit like Stillen's, there's no direct contact with the oil.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated!

My mechanic says to stick with 5W30 Mobil 1 or similar synthetic.

And you've had your Stillen Setup for quite awhile with the 5w30 too. That's really good to know. I am so used to running a heavier weight in the turbo's and just felt like I was shortening engine life for fuel economy putting 5w30 in there.

there has been good reviews on Mobile1 0W40 for FI cars. I don't really see that much difference between Turbo and SC. Most turbo uses the same oil to lubricate itself so that may put more wear and tear on the oil. I just sent my Oil (Mobile1 0W40) to Blackstone for analysis so that will give us some real data for our Stock Motor.

Keep us posted FI'ed. That would be interesting to see how our stock motors are handling the newfound power. What kind of boost and power are you laying down?

Also, how much does Blackstone charge for the analysis?

I'm running 8psi (365whp) and I have 22000 miles on my car now. I put down 2500 miles on the Mobile1 and it was already black. That 2500 miles was 85% hard driving and lots of WOT pull. If the oil hold up then I'll be impress!

Ok, here is my result after using Mobile1 0W40 for 2500miles. I have a Single Turbo running 8psi around 360whp on my Stock Motor. This 2500 miles are all hard driven and lots of WOT Pull since I was adjusting my A/F for the Winter Driving. I only drive my car on the Weekend so I go WOT every chance I get My oil was almost black when I changed them so I was surprise that it did hold pretty good. My car is pretty much stock except the Turbo and Mrev+. I think I can still push a few more hundred miles but I'm happy to change my oil at 2.5K miles

Given the high heat here in Phoenix and the extra heat boost makes I run M1 15W50 in the summer and 10W40 in the winter.

I think I can go with 4k miles on 0w40. Did you guys did some test if your oil are actually holding? Heavier weight dont mean it is actually holding

You guys are going to laugh at me... but PM or post some info on this place where you can get your oil tested at and its costs... I have never done that before and would love to spend a little money and time seeing how our oils hang with our driving and add ons.

Let's post that information for the lame guys like myself to be enlightened.

You can order some free test. They will send you a container that you need to send back to them with payment of $22.50 (Check or Credit Card). If you are going to do a lot of test then they have a package that will save you $5+ (depend on the package)
