Need help with gauges for TN kit.

Hey,

I'm having my TN kit installed very soon, and I want to get a good set of gauges. I want to get Boost, Oil Pressure, and Wideband. I think I'm going to go with the Defi Boost, and Oil Pressure, and the Inovative Wideband. I have just a couple questions about the gauges.

-What color do I want to get the Defi gauges in to match the interior? Amber? Also it seems like there are different levels of gauges, Imperial, BF, ect. Which ones should I get??

-The Inovative Wideband (X-16) comes with like 16 different combos of faceplate, and a bunch of other stuff, but Do I need a "control unit" like the one that the Defi gauges need to use this gauge??

-How do the Autometer nexis gauges compare to the Defi, they are only a little bit more money, and if they work better, and read more accurate, then I would rather just spend the extra money and get those. Which gauges are the better of the two??

-Is there such a thing as a knock-off gauge, I have seen some very good prices on ebay, for new gauges from ebay stores, but I'm not sure if they are legit or not. I know there were alot of knock-off "Tein" springs being sold on ebay, and I dont want to waste my money on a knock-off chinese boost gauge.

Also does anyone have any recomendations on where to purchase the gauges, Vivid racing seems to have the best prices, so far, but I also got a good price from a loacal shop, and I wouldnt have to worry about shipping. If you are a forum vendor, send me a PM if you could with a price for all of these gauges too.

Thanks in advance
-Tom

The nexus gauges are not as bright as Defi. I usually switch to white during the day and use the OEM amber colour at night. It's not a big deal, just something to consider when weighing all the factors.

When you say they are not as bright do you mean that in a good way, or do you mean that they are hard to read because they are not well lit.

Also that made me think of another question, is the brightness setting on these gauges adjustable, I cant stand bright light when I'm driving at night, I turn the cluster down to as dark as it can go, to the point where it is about to shut off.

There are 5 settings of brightness. They are absolutely perfect at night, but during the day, the amber isn't as bright as I would like it to be able to read the gauges the easiest. I use the highest illumination all the time - even at night. I am sure you would be happy with the amount you can turn them down.

As for the innovative wideband X-16, all you need comes with it, the wideband controller, the bosch sensor, and the gauge. You don't something additional in the cabin like the Defi control unit. It's a great wideband, you might have to recalibrate it every now and then though.. if you ever disconnect the battery, etc.

I'm going with Nexus WB A/F, Boost, EGT, Oil Press, Fuel Press and Oil Temp.

I was looking at the Defi but like that the Autometer are 52mm and all match. It would be nice if Defi would make a A/F again.

Yea its too bad that Defi dosent make a nice Wideband. Why did you decide to go with 52mm instead of 60mm? Also thats alot of gauges that you are getting, where are you going to put them all?? lol.

Nexus gauges are more than bright enough for me; I think I have them at the 3 (out of five) setting for the day, which is not too bright at night. Also, they have changeable colors using the remote, and the amber color perfectly matches the interior gauges on the G. Finally, you can put a SD card in the remote, and record the gauge readings for playback later.

I don't know anything about the Defi gauges, but I am very happy with my Autometer Nexus's. I've got boot, oil press, and oil temp in a 3 gauge A-pillar pod, and fuel press and wideband as part of my double DIN setup.

The #1 reason was I found a great deal on some of them used.

I am going with A/F, Boost and EGT on the A-pillar and the other above the HVAC display.
