Vortech S/C
Vortech S/C
I ordered a supercharger from Vortech this past week and was hoping someone has done their own install. If so, some feedback before i get started would be super.

Re: Vortech S/C
Ok. Here's my feedback... Make sure they send you the "shorter" belt. What I mean by that is that the drive belt they sent in the kit I ordered in December ended up being too long once the normal stretching took place. They sent me a replacement belt that was about 1/2 inch smaller--so obviously I'm not the first person who has had this issue. You want to go ahead and install the shorter one now and not have to deal with the squeal later on.
Also, if you're not planning on taking the car to a tuner who has a copy of the R4 software then I would say that you should reconsider.
Also, the instructions in the kit are HORRIBLE. They're not inaccurate but they are simply not detailed enough in my opinion.

Re: Vortech S/C
Installing the kit itself shouldn't be a problem. But like ZImbo said, MAKE SURE YOU TUNE IT! Get it on a dyno ASAP with some R4 software. Vortech stock tuning of the split sec box is less then satisfactory. The default timing is all screwy.
Also, most of the parts needs to be installed from under the car, so make sure you have jackstands or a lift. You will also need a drill to tap the oil pan. I hope your electical wiring skills are above par too. You will need to splice into about 6+ wires on your ECU (Make sure you have a copy of the factory ECU wiring diagram, you can probably obtain a copy from your dealer).
Also, word of advice, change out the plugs first. Also, have about 5 quarts of oil ready because you will need to drain your oil pan.
If you don't plan on getting your car tuned with a laptop, then I recommend getting yourself a knock sensor because the blower will be too loud for you to hear the pinging. Take all the precautionary measures as you can, even if that means spending a few more bucks. Also, I don't recommend pushing the car in 65+ degrees weather with the stock bumper. That is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Vortech S/C
Yea.. I read the vortech manual from a posting I saw on a website.. the whole friggin instructions are maybe 15-20 pages.. very few pictures. it says technically what to do.. but its very very technical terms it seemed.. like only a mechanic or real knowledgable person should be doing..
granted its a pretty big mod and maybe a pro should do it anyways, but it sure would be fun to get it and install it yourself.. ill have to think about it..
just curious/worried though.. what you mean dollar99 about not pushing in 65+ weather with the stock bumper? just curious cause down here in socal its always 65+.. you say that just cause the airflow is so low due to the two wimpy little openings.. thereby causing the engine to heat up or what? It would seem like if there was less airflow.. the supercharger wouldnt' be effective anyway and then it wouldnt even get hotter..
