First possible big problem...

If I could get everyone's help here on some issues, I'd appreciate it.

First I would ask that you read this thread:

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325765

Since late last week my car has been acting a little funny. If I'm accelerating a little harder than normal and shift, the car bogs down and my RPM's drop a few (even when I have my foot on the gas, remember I have an auto) and then it continues to be normal.

So, I thought nothing of it really until today when I was going home from work. I was just looking at my A/F and noticed its not going to 10's and 11's under WOT. I'm like WTF? Its staying about 14.7 - 15. Then today on the freeway going about 75 in 5th gear I just put the pedal to the floor, the car bogs down, and goes up, bogs down again, and goes all the while my A/F is at 16-17

I've been told its probably the tranny slipping, and causing the ECU and the piggy back to send bad signals and telling the car to do something it shouldn't do.

So now I'm afraid to drive my car, and I don't know what to do. Should I say eff it and just do a tranny build ASAP?

Thanks for the help guys....

Dang man! Sorry to hear this! I'm subscribing since I'm trying to decide which VB to get in my never ending FI project.

Outa curiosity, why not get trans temp gauge? ma_sha (I think that's his sn) has one with his AT and VB (off the top of my head stillen or L10?).

Like all the chatter back and forth on my350, I wonder if your VB just overheated the ATF and since your running a torque monster, the added heat may have just been the "straw the broke the camel's back."

How much shaft torque have you calculated that the tranny is seeing? (wtq minus 20% driveline loss?) It's only rated at 333ft-lbs, so anything above that is going to get into potential damage territory.

Again, best to ya and let us know what you find out!

does your have a delay from 1-2 but the rest of the gears shifts fast in MM? I notice that in mine. But as far as the A/F, the tranny will not make your car go lean just bc it's slipping.

I don't see from your problem description why you are focusing on tranny trouble. You tranny does not control the A/F and has little effect on it. This could be a simple vaccum leak of it is time to clear the ECU by disconnecting it for 20 minutes or so. You didn't say what engine management you are using, but I have heard of instances where the stock ECU tries to learn around the piggy-back and ends up screwing up like that. Clearing the ECU could smooth things out. I have also seen those exact symptoms when I had water come in through the rubber plug on the firewall. It leaked down the wires and right into my E-Manage Ultimate. Was it raining when all of this was going on?

I tried resetting the ECU via the pedals last night, I can try again with the battery today since the ECU thing didn't work. My friend said something about the 06 ECU's doing what sliderg35 mentioned.

You have an '06. Based on the fact that you just had it tuned... You're probably having the same issues I was having. The '06 ECU doesn't like piggyback tuners that alter the MAF signal. Does your tuner alter the MAF signal or take direct control of the injectors?
^^This is what he said. If this is the case, how can I go about getting this fixed?

No, it was not raining when I noticed all this and no I did not just wash my car.

It is throwing two codes, but they're all irrelevant as they're due to my test pipes.

Thanks for the help, this is worrying me a lot and I need to figure something out to get this fixed.

Do you have a UTEC? I'm pretty sure my UTEC/tune uses the MAF signal at low RPMs (pre-boost) and then uses the MAP signal at higher RPMs (post-boost). I haven't had any issues with it yet (keeping fingers crossed)!

Another thing to keep in mind is that it *could* (in a worst case) be multiple problems occurring at the same time. Maybe something with the piggyback/ECU interaction and your transmission. Did you ever find out if you had one of the defective VBs? I've always had this strange feeling that some people may have sent out defective VBs and the shops unknowingly upgraded them (before the problem was identified).

Thanks for the help guys, I do really appreciate it.

I would take it back to RA if they were not a 5 hour drive from here. But it may be going back there soon anyway.

No, I am on the SS box from JWT. Scott from RA and I are trying to figure out what could be the problem.

No, I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. Do you think this is something I should look at? Is there a way to check fuel pressure without having a gauge (stupid question?).

I'm probably not going to do a built tranny actually, I've had enough of this automatic.

Something else will be in store very soon, time permitting.

But, I still want this problem fixed so I can enjoy my car before it goes under the knife again.
