This is the same concept as the STS kit. You may have to clean the filter a little more often but it's not bad. The STS for the G/Z comes with a shield, and to the best of my knowledge no one has had any problems with this.

+1 STS has a shield and a cover for the filter. Here's a pix of the Filter with the shield and I'm not sure if you can see the cover wrapping the filter itself.
