I don't know if I replied to this thread or not..too lazy to look.

Would I go back? HELL NO. The only thing I would've done is bought a damn six speed to begin with. I had no intentions of modding the G past wheels and possible drop. Next thing I knew it was twin turbo. I would also prob save up and build the motor at the same time, saving money on labor.

I've said it on tons of posts and I'll say it again 20k boosted miles and 0 major problems. That includes multiple autocrosses (5+), 1 track day, and daily driven HARD. If you're tuned and installed right there is NO reason why you shouldn't go FI if you're contemplating it and want to do it.

You only live once. DO IT.

I went with a pretty modest set up. Turbonetics single turbo and a meth/H2O injection system. Tuned to around 340 whp. I would do it again. I drive the car nearly every day and have even taken it on some extended trips with no problems. It continues to get 26 MPG on the expressway and when I want to...It Whales to 60 mph in nearly 4 seconds flat. Ask me again after more mods...I am guessing that is when I will start to see the nickel/dime stuff some others talk about. Also keep in mind that when I drive my car, 90% of the time I don't even get into the boost all the way or for very long. I just enjoy the fact that it is there for those times when I get the itch. I figure if I drive it "adult like" most of the time I will preserve the car and lessen the risk of expensive repairs.

So yes, I'd do it again and I would pick the same system based on how reliable it has been and the awesome customer support provided by Turbonetics.

So all the people talking about having should have just built the motor initially, are you mainly referring to turbo applications? What if someone was to just throw on a Vortech kit, get it tuned and be done with it, would this still cause all the same problems and maintenance headaches?

It is my opinion that you do not need to build the motor as long as you stay at a reasonable, low boost tune and don't drive your car like a teenager everywhere you go. Also invest in a Meth/H2O injection system for added protection against pre-detonation. I drive my car every day and it's reliablity has been flawless.
Turbos or supercharger...boost pressure is boost pressure. While they behave differently, the pressure on the motor from boost shouldn't be any different.
8 psi is 8 psi, turbo or supercharger. I am sure someone will chime in if I am wrong or off mark a bit.

Well, I would have to disagree that 8PSI is 8PSI, the boost on a turbo or vortech type unit builds up on a curve, whereas a roots type is pretty much off/on power from the get go....this has to have an effect on engine wear.

I also disagree about "8psi is 8psi, turbo or supercharger" ... with a turbo you can be pushing 8psi at 3500 RPM's (engine is not breathing at its full capacity) whereas with a [centrifugal] supercharger, you will not reach 8psi until you reach redline (engine is breathing at full capacity). Just my $0.02.

Very good points. 8 psi is still 8 psi but where it comes in and how quickly is definately important and would have impact on engine wear. Thanks for the calibration.

PSI is not the only factor coz the volume it is pumping matters. 8psi with a tiny GT25 will be different with 8psi GT66 turbo. This is why you see different power level between 8psi TT and 8psi ST or 8psi with TN ST and 8psi with powerlab ST.
