Going TT soon, keep HFC's or go with TP?

Quote: How do you pass emissions? Do you switch out the test pipes for the emissions test?
Florida does not have emissions

Quote: Yeah originally I was planning to do the JWT 530BB set but someone said I should just get the 700BB and have it boost controlled so it's safe for my stock G engine. So the HFC's are probably good for now. If I do go with the 700BB kit, and want to push past 450rwhp I guess I'd need to build my engine. Either way it sounds like I can keep the HFC until I decide to build up my engine to take full advantage of the 700BB kit (like you!)....
I agree..go with the 700BB...stay below 400whp and keep your HFC.

Good luck...

May be having a change of direction here...just ordered some quotes for a built motor + the JWT 700BB kit. Shooting for ~550rwhp. I've heard any more power than that and the car is not very streetable...any comments?

Test pipes FTW!

My car has 0 rasp and sounds awesome. It was just as loud with the oem cats when I had my SC.

Built motor and 700BB, go with 3" downpipes and no cats.

550whp is a lot for the street.

I guess my primary goal is to have the most powerful car possible that I can still drive under normal conditions. But my second most important goal is to have a seriously powerful car that can hang with just about anything on the road.

is 550whp the right number for me?

550 is probably perfect for the street. Pick up a set of Toyo R888's and you'll be golden.

How will my OEM 19" Bridgestones hold up with this kind of power? Can I get away with them for awhile before upgrading to racing tires?

Went to Toyo's site and this looks like the only R888 size that will fit on my OEM Ray's 19's: 235/35ZR19

So I'd have thinner tires in the rear and thicker in the front...is this really what I want? Or are there racing tires that will have same dimensions as my OEM's?

with that much power you're going to want to buy bigger wheels and tires, that much power will require that much more traction. unless you enjoy making the rear come loose as much as i do

maybe I should rethink this then...I want to keep the OEM rims. Should I decrease the power output so I'm not spinning all the time?

You making me nervous with those kind of questions.

Here is a question for you....have you ever driven a car with 500-RWHP before? Especially one with lack of traction? Unless you invest in some d@mn good tires.

The good think about turbo's is you can turn the boost down when you don't need it...but on a 500+whp G/Z with JWT 700BB turbo's....the lowest you may be able to set the wastegate is around 450whp....unless you change the spring which may affect you at high boost....but that would lower the boost even more.

Have you ever driven in a twin turbo Porsche (which has less than 420 whp) .....2006 to 2008? ...well the 500 whp G/Z is way faster....not off the line (because of lack of traction and the TT Porsche is 4wd) but from a roll....Porsche cant hang. I have proven it many times.

Come to ZdayZ in May...I think the 16th if that's a Thursday......there will be tons of over 500, 600, 650, 700+ whp G/Z's there...and they will be happy to give you a demonstration. We are renting out an Airport to do top speed runs. From what I am told ...Nissan Magazine will be there to take pictures of the event for the magazine.

500 whp is a lot of for someone who is not experienced with it. Remember...that's over 600 HP.

There is nothing worst than flooring the pedal at 60 mph and finding the car trying to go sideways.... I am running over 600whp (over 700 HP) so it happens to me once in a while.

I'm so jealous! How much would a TT setup run? I'm trying to get an idea so once my G is paid for, and I buy another DD I can't go TT!

Thanks for all the info man. I'm pretty new to the FI game...I love the look of the OEM 19's (which I just bought!), so I wanted to run those for awhile. Do you think I'd be able to run the 700BB kit at ~450rwhp on the OEM 19 wheels/tires? I'm not opposed to getting better tires, providing they'll fit the OEM rims...

I don't think I'll be able to make it to Z day but I'm heading to a local DC meet this Sunday and will check out some of the rides there for sure!

Thanks again,
B

You should be able to find some tires to hook up at 450 whp. Just to reiterate, if you don't build your motor (for the higher boost) the only way to safely hit 450whp is with 3" downpipes and a 3" exhaust. Otherwise you will be bottlenecking the turbos and you'll have to turn the boost up way too high (and unsafe) to hit that mark.

Yes you will be able to with good tires. Remember......to run the car at anything over 400whp...you will need to build the motor. 400 and under...you can run the stock motor.
