finished vortech install

i finally finshed my vortech install tonight, big ups to dollar99 and dbsqjunkie for there great help, i started around 9 saturday night, worked most of that night, half of sunday, and a few hours each night after that. all in all it wasnt too difficult, the hardest part was making sure the IC tubing fit precisely, no, the hardest part was putting the sc assembly plate on the engine, no, the hardest part was tapping into the fuel lines, no, the hardest part was tapping the oil pan, damn come to think of it, it was a pretty nerve racking install, but hey i saved myself 1000 bucks, the kit fits perfectly, and when i say perfect i mean it couldnt fit any other way, vortech barely squeezed it in there.

Re: finished vortech install

luckily i had previously installed my new colder plugs so that saved some time. tapping got the oil return was a bit scary, they send the drill bit but no tap, it calls for a 3/8npt tap which is hard to find, or it was for me, then it went it crooked so i almost crapped my pants, luckily i had some pig putty just in case, i put some teflon sealant on the threads and hoped for a miracle, the fuel line was a pain, its on the side of the engine down low on the passenger side, accessible from underneath. besides a face full of gas, i came thru ok i guess.

Re: finished vortech install

i did a few things that were due to me being a perfectionist that added some time to the install, but i think it came out ok, i didnt mount the power steering cooler like they explained, i did it differently, mounting the IC was straight forward, you must get the tubing exactly right, theres not any room for mistakes, there isnt any room period, my arms are slashed up, along with my knuckles.

Re: finished vortech install

i put the ss box in the side pocket beside the passengers right foot behind the plastic panel, my fuse box was where they said to mount it, i had no problems in the new place, wiring it up was pretty simple, just in a difficult location,

Re: finished vortech install

what do you do about tuning now? can you fire it up and drive it, or is it a mess?

Re: finished vortech install

i fired it up once i had everything wired up, it fired up the first time, without any problems, i could smell something burning for the first 30 seconds, but i guess it was just some oil or something on the engine, nothing is rubbing and the smell is gone, i took it for a little test drive and it feels great, the bov sounds awesome. it definitely packs a punch now, i was a bit conservative since i have to wait till saturday to get it tuned but it comes ready to drive out of the box.

Re: finished vortech install

Very nice! BTW, if you're going to do any of the tuning yourself (or even be there while it's done), have a look at my comments on the my350z forum in answer to another poster's comments about his less than satisfactory out-of-the-box dyno.

Again, congrats!!

Re: finished vortech install

the BOV does whistle a lot, especially at idle, i think im gonna do what dbsq did and make that filter to cut down on the sound, but man does it sound good when you punch it.
