I wonder if just saving a stack of recipes that you have spent in the past, and show it to them after a incident has happened will work.

I don't think recipes will work you need receipts...J/K

I don't think they will cover it with just receipts though...back in the day my buddy built an S-10 and dumped about $4,000 on paint, hood, wheels etc.etc. and the next day he was Tboned and his INS. did not cover his new work.

About a month ago some guy posted up and he worked for and insurance co. and he said to document everything with pictures lots and lots of pictures.

I recently spoke with my agent, she increased my value based on the
receipts I submitted. Preliminary numbers indicate $33.00 extra per month.

History=great/no tickets/accidents in 5 years + 3 car multi discount.

Well worth the risk in my opinion.

Thats what I have done. I am fully covered for a little extra. If you are under 35 and single with only one car....its going to hurt. The word TURBO to an insurance company means trouble...no matter if it came with the car or put on after.

i worked for an insurance company for 4 years. if you tell them you have mods to the engine they will 99% of the time drop you. They understand visual mods: wheels, tunes, body kit, paint etc. But if you talk about engine mods they automaticly think your a "street Racer" and will drop you.

if something hapens to your car you take the loss on the FI.

I have Allstate and they offer supplemental insurance policies for aftermarket parts. It doesn't cover labor, just what you paid on parts.

I added a $20k in coverage to my car. Nothing was required upfront and I didn't have to declare what mods I had done. What you need to do is keep all your receipts and they'll replace the damaged parts that you can provide adequate documentation for. It added ~$100 per month to my policy.

My friend Rick is an agent and helped set it up for me. For all you guys in NJ, I'd recommend giving him a call at (609) 877-1105, he's been able to hook up everybody he's talked to and beat their current rates. He's Theatrix over at my350z. Sorry for you out of state guys, he can only write personal policies for people in NJ.

Bump..
I just switched to different auto insurance and I'm getting pre-insurance inspection else they will suspend my collision and theft coverage.

I'm not worried about taking a lost on my FI parts but I'm curious if they will not cover me or deny payment if I do get in an accident. I can cover my end to fix my car but I'm afraid that they will deny payment to anything even for medial expense. I'm also afraid that I might end up being sued by the one I hit coz my insurance wont pay for anything. Can the insurance get away with it and just blame my turbo for everything?

But the car insurance company establishes value based on current markets for OEM vehicles. If you have an accident with your FI G35 (I understand front end collisions are very hard on FI equipment) the insurance company will obviously not reimburse you for that extra 30 grand.

What have you guys with the spendy add-ons done? Have you purchased a special rider that covers the extras or some other type of special insurance policy or are you just counting on not having an accident?
I had State Farm. They would not cover all of the extras I put into my car. I then went searching. The funny thing was that when I contacted Progressive directly, they would not cover my car. I then contacted an insurance specialist, and he obtained insurance for the full amount I had invested into the car, plus its original value, through Progressive. The premiums are a little more than what I was already paying State Farm, but not significantly. I sent my insurance agent all of my receipts covering my modifications so that he has them on file, and now I have insurance covering everything (although I need to update this for the latest round of modifications).

i told geico about my civic when i was running a greddy kit and zex wet shot and all the otehr parts. lady on the phone said they didnt care what modifications were just the total value. filled out an itemization list and had insurance on everything at a very minimal increase yearly.

^^That's good to know^^

I wonder if USAA will cover mods, if not Geico was the next in line anyway.

So, I thought I'd add some info I just found out from my insurance agent recently.

Adding on extra coverage for mods you have done on the car is good for if YOU wreck your car or if YOU are at fault in a crash. Then, if you have been paying the extra premium for what you declared, the insurance company will either buy you new parts or write you a check. If you had not been paying a premium and try to get them to replace your mod'd stuff, they will obviously not.

However, adding coverage for mods has nothing to do with someone else wrecking your property. If some idiot destroys the hell out of your car, he is obligated by law to replace whatever you had done to the car. This has nothing to do with you paying extra premiums to your own insurance company, because the other party was at fault. Again, if the other party is at fault, they (or their insurance company) is required to replace your stuff. In the case of intangible amounts of $, like say for my custom headlights that I spent so much time and labor into, it would go to a judge to reach an agreement between parties on how much money should be awarded.

That being said, I have my wheels covered as an extra premium, but I probably won't bother declaring my body stuff or HLs or my TT kit once it's installed.
