What do you guys do about car insurance after an FI install?

The total cost of a proper FI install along with necessary related mods such as exhaust, suspension, wheels and tires seems to be about $30,000. This about doubles the value, or at least the funds invested in, the average G35.

But the car insurance company establishes value based on current markets for OEM vehicles. If you have an accident with your FI G35 (I understand front end collisions are very hard on FI equipment) the insurance company will obviously not reimburse you for that extra 30 grand.

What have you guys with the spendy add-ons done? Have you purchased a special rider that covers the extras or some other type of special insurance policy or are you just counting on not having an accident?

I've seen advertisements for some INS. CO. that specialize in insuring (Hot Rides/Modified/Exotics) cars for enthusiasts but they cost a pretty penny.

You would think with the market for modifications their would so many CO. doing this...I would assume that people would wanna protect their investments.

Most insurance companies offer a seperate EO policy for extras. Just get an appraisal from a shop and present it to your insurance company for a qoute (that's what I was told).

Some of my friends have already done this for expensive wheels, brakes, body kits, etc.

Dunno on the actual cost, tho. I will be trying do this myself soon.

yeah but what if someone slams into you

I wonder if just saving a stack of recipes that you have spent in the past, and show it to them after a incident has happened will work.

I know people that do insure their wheels and it isn't a problem. I wouldn't see why the insurance company wouldn't insure something extra. I am sure it is on a seperate plan though.

Don't tell them. For most polices your damages you suffer in an accident are covered so long as there is not a stipulation within the contract that capps the total value they will award. all of your entitlements, and the insurencee company's ability will depend on the state in which you reside/hold your policy in.

With me last 2 cars I just told them about the 'show car i built' and I sent them the total from my receipts and they made me pay an extra $30 a month for about $15k worth of things. Why would they drop you lol? They're here to make money, if they fear you will cost them money they'll charge you more. It wasn't a problem for me in the passed, I don't see why things would change now.
