seems that you know where your problem is, but in all honesty if you dont like the sound and you only have about 10 hp to gain b4 putting ur motor in danger, what is the point of changing the setup?

That's exactly what I did. I went from HKS Hi Power to GReddy Evo TT to Fast Intentions. It's almost stock looking and sounds slightly louder/deeper than stock.

get some test pipe and a custom mid pipe.... but you really gonna kill the mototr with all the back pressure its not going to last long either with you pushing 400+ on stock block

just post up your timing map from the UTEC and we can quickly tell ya how much room you have to play. if its only 13-14 degrees at the top, you can easily add another 5-6 degrees.
I would if I could man. Unfortunately, I'm retarded when it comes to car electronics. Ironically, if it were an airplane I could probably pull anything I want out of it.

That's a great point. I'm finally getting a VB upgrade as we speak (on my new unit installed by Infiniti), so maybe this is the perfect point to stop and be happy with it. But on the flip side...

A part of me is scared that I'm making "dangerous power", that my boost and timing are purely the result of the bottleneck in the exhaust. If I open it up and drop it to say 12 psi, with the timing advanced just a little bit and that exhaust gas getting out, seems like it would be more stable. Maybe I shouldn't even be considering extra power, just focusing on increasing the throughput.

There is possibly a catch to all this though. My 403 whp was measured at 6800 RPM in tiptronic (slightly raised rev limit via reflash). I've been under the impression (told) that in drive, you're stuck with a hardcoded 6600 RPM limit. If that's truly the case, on any given day I may only be pushing about 380 whp, because I typically cruise around in drive.

The fast intentions does not keep the stock tone. It makes your car sound like an old FBody slowmarrow. If you want to keep the your stock tone, but still want to open it up, you should go for the Nismo exhaust with high flow cats, or the Fujitsubo (the same as the Nismo one) that Mark recommended above.

^+1 Fujitsubo make's Gade A stuff, it's pretty much a better version of the Nismo(they make the Nismo too). louder, lighter and better flow. not to mention it looks less stock than the Nismo and bolt's right on.

You guys think that previously posted clip of the Fujitsubo is representative of the real sound? It's on a Z, and there's something in the background, could be a dyno, or maybe even an SC.

Found one on youtube of a G35. High RPMs sound sick.

It's just so damn hard dishing out a grand for something you spec'ed out on youtube! Sounds like you guys have all been down that path before, since some of you have gotten 3 exhausts!

Measure the back pressure at various points at WOT HP peak rpm to calulate how much you are losing.

Tap new threads in exhaust to connect before and after 1st cat, then after last cat [to analyse muffler system].

Hey guys, thanks for the tip! It was like finding the holy grail, but I finally found a vendor with a fuji in stock. Fuji + vortech = pure sex. It definitely sounds different than all of the NA clips. It has a deep rumble at low RPM (*almost* like a V8), not obnoxious at all, and then at high RPMs the thing just screams, sounds like a ferrari.
