aps single turbo
aps single turbo
Hey everyone. just wanted everyone thoughts on this set-up. i got an 03 coupe 6mt with 40k on the odo. along with this set-up wat else should i invest in and wat are some good vq tuning/shops in northeast??
thanks
thanks
I got it and really enjoy it. at this point thought I would suggest the twin kit because once you go over 400 it involves a lot of custom work( swapping out turbos and such). dave at function tuned is the man and will warrenty the block.

i would stay away from the APS ST.
not a fan of the design, especially the internally waste gated turbo as well as location of the turbo, which uses a scavenge pump to return oil from the turbo back to the oil pan.
plus, the supporting mods required to optimize the system puts you close to TT territory.
APS recommends their external wastegate/downpipe along with their exhaust to "properly hold boost and maximize power".
can it be done without these, highly doubtful.
if you run into any issues, APS has very poor customer service. they will not deal directly with you, even over simple issues such as trying to find an extra air filter.
and if something goes wrong, they'll always recommend you upgrade to this or that.
boost not holding pressure? they'll say get their exhaust.
boost still not holding to redline? they'll say get there downpipe with external wastegate

From the things i've seen and heard it wouldn't be my choice in bolt on kits- there are a few other great kits out there that can do what an ST should do.
It seems ST's were just twin turbos little brother.. When in reality I *THINK* a big *** single turbo should be able to get down the track faster than any other kind of F/I
Look at some of the newer less name branded once (ie not greddy/aps/TN)
just my .02
