you HAVE to understand thats how it goes, some people never have a problem. other people have problems from day one. its a coin toss

there is no such thing as safe in the FI world. even at 350 rwhp, although the chances of something happening are slightly lower

unless you are doing everything yourself and buying everything used, 6k is not gonna cut it

I am going to tell you that unless you have the money to spend on the kit, labor, tune and have backup funding for a new motor, labor and retune... along with all the downtime then this is not for you.

I have college funds to pay but thankfully I also have a decent career that pays me well.

I haven't gone FI but I will hopefully soon enough. The key, imo, is to learn as much as possible yourself so that you can do everything yourself. The very first turbo car I ever built blew up within the first two weeks and the frustration led me to "swear an oath" to myself that I would never break another engine again. While I know this is really an impossible oath since ANYTHING is possible, I actually have yet to break another engine and I've built quite a few 400-500whp cars that have lasted for years.

The key is tuning. Tune it yourself and tune it ultra safe. What's a 20-30whp loss if it'll gain you years of enjoyment out of an engine. If an engine can "safely" make 400whp...my not put down 320-350whp in an ultra safe tune and enjoy the crap out of it until you can build the engine?

Start buying books or read lots of internet articles on tuning. IMO, tuning yourself is the only way to go because it's your car on your hands so you'll do everything carefully. Also, get a wideband and a pyrometer and start ultra rich with little timing and work your way to a good a/f ratio and good timing map.

GT-ER, what kit are you interested in for your G? Also, which EMS do you think fits your personal tuning needs most?

Right now I have a procharger in mind ( the hardware only ) and I'm looking into the Osiris tuner because if it fits my needs, then I see no reason to use a piggyback or standalone.

Back when I had the Grand Prix there were people in the forums in the 9's and 8's using the stock ecu modified with a software ( HP Tuner ) that SEEMS similar to Osiris Tuner...hopefully it is.

You have two ways of doing this....either get experience by blowing up engines, or get experience by taking your time and doing things right. Both work well, but one blows up engines...lol.

Read and understand how engine managements work, especially oem ones which are by far the most complex, yet safest and much more forgiving ( excluding high end stand alones which offer just about everything the oem offers but at a higher resolution which makes them pretty much perfect..lol ).
