5AT + FI = Questions

I don't have the money now, but I am trying to do my research on going Forced Induction on my 2004 Laser Red G Coupe.

I've looked at a couple of kits, and the one I really have my eye on right now is the GT Motorsports DE Turn Key Twin Turbo Kit (I am looking into the Turn Key vs Tuner versions). I don't know if Stage 1 would suffice, I need to read further into the outputs of each.

For AT Transmission upgrades, I've read a Torque Converter and Oil Cooler are required. Any other trans upgrades needed to prevent stock trans damage?

Thanks in advance guys. Other tips may be helpful!

-Brian

Valvebody I would say is a must as well. Depending on how many miles you have on the tranny, might even consider a full built tranny.

You will want at least a valve body upgrade with a TT setup. Make sure you run low boost and don't go over 400whp unless you have the money for a new built motor.

PM if you want help picking out a tranny cooler, VB upgrade, or if you even want to go fully built.

Canadian, I'm going to be hitting you up soon. I want to upgrade my vb and add a GTM cooler soon.

Are you guys running an trans temp guage too? That's what I want to do. Make sure I know what's going on down there at all times you know

Powerlab single turbo @ 4-6psi = good DD boosted G, if you're interested with that I may help you. But of course you'll need all the upgrades for the transmission Valve body upgrade and such as others are telling you

Sounds good, just hit me up whenever. I don't have a trans temp gauge yet but plan on doing it soon whenever I get around to doing my new gauge install...probably in the next 1-2 months. IMO unless you track your car when you are going repeated WOT runs you don't need a trans temp gauge. I overheated my trans on the track near the last lap of every session but if you aren't tracking you should be fine.

I think this question comes up like every other month, it's all covered before.

VB, TC ,oil cooler, tranny cooler and if you want even more trq capabilities upgrade the tranny itself.

Check my garage if you like.

Sounds about right.... Urban did you have the 5AT stuff done all at once or in intervals?

Definitely! What happened to your trans after it overheated? Did it start slipping?

I had a VB upgrade put in first but then I raised the rev. limiter as I kept hitting it. Soon afterwards I felt the clutchpacks starting to slip so I had the whole remaining package upgraded at the same time.

6mt needs upgraded clutch.

5at needs upgraded valve body.

Trq converter is not manditory, but will certainly help you lay down more consistent power curves.

To advise against that is nothing more than FUD. It is only a matter of time before your tranny bites the dust otherwise.

Well actually it didn't overheat, but it was about to. I was just doin my lap and then the display that shows the gear went into 4th gear, even when I didn't shift. It wouldn't go out of 4th at all. Then a few seconds later the display went blank and the AT check light came on and the car wouldn't up shift or downshift at all. After I got back to the pits I let it cool down and it was fine, but it did it again near the end of every session (4 sessions in the day).

The tranny went into limp mode to prevent it from overheating, so it didn't actually overheat but it could have.
