i've had my G for a lil over a year now and i'm lookin to get some more power out of it... i've done some research and i'm looking at the JWT Twin turbo.. i'd like to get about 450-500whp out of the car? What other mods would i need to make to keep the engine safe and obtain this power.. everything in the engine is stock right now
Get a built short block. 450-500 whp is pushing a stock block too hard. It won't last long.
A number of vendors on here and the My350Z forum sell them starting around $2,600.
You also should get a fuel return system, a Walbro fuel pump, larger fuel injectors, an aftermarket exhaust system, and either an ECU re-flash or an aftermarket EMS.
If you are a 5AT, you should upgrade the clutchpacks and valve bodies in your transmission. If you have a 6MT, you will need a stronger clutch.
You also may consider getting a plenum spacer. The Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer performs well. Downpipes or, if you live in a state with smog testing, high flow cats also will be good to have.
Also, yoiu should consider improving engine cooling. A Koyo radiator is frequently used and is a pretty good value. There are even better radiators, but they tend to be $$$$$$$$. Also, an oil cooler is probably a worthwhile investment (I have two).
Also, bigger wheels and tires. The stock rear tires don't handle that much hp very well. You can wait on the new tires until after you fry the old ones off.

i live near the GA area and i was looking at Z1 motorsports to do the install of the JWT because they are authorized to do the JWT turbo install.. i dont know much about shortblocks.. i was looking at the shortblocks that they offer and i didnt know quite exactly waht i was looking for in ... some help please and if you have heard good things about Z1..
The Eagle rod/Wiseco piston combination typically gives the best value and is a wll proven combination.
If you want to spend more money, without any real benefit for builds under 1,000 hp, you can look at Carillo or Pauter rods.
Also, there are more expensive pistons out there, but I prefer Wiseco, regardless of price. CPs also are good, but they cost more money. Some people like Arias, but they are expensive too.
You want the short block to be balanced.
Here are some web sites to check out:

There are others out there if you do some searching.
I forget to ask if you have a rev-up or non rev-up motor (I think in 2005 there were both). Let whoever you are ordering the motor from that you are replacing a rev-up motor.

I think you should research more if you dont even know what a built short block is. If your looking for that much power on your stock block it will go KaBoOm! If you want to keep your stock block 370-390 is "ok". You will deffinately need pistons and connecting rods for that much power. Large injectors, EMS, Fuel Pump, Tranny Cooler, Oil Cooler, Upgraded Valve Body for AT. Better Brakes, Better Tires for better traction. FI costs man, make sure you look into it.
okay.. i'm gonna do some more research on short blocks as i see that they seem like the most important mod that needs to be made... out of the other things what are the most important mods /mods that need to be made at the same time as the turbo or within a short period.. like i know i'll need to replace the tires but that doesnt seem like a need at the exact time of the turbo install..b/c i'd rather wait and save up more money to get everything that NEEDS to be done at once done at once so that i keep the car safe and doesnt go BOOM haha.
If you live in GA, you should be going to Forged Performance in Marietta. Do some research on my350z and this site.
Actually scratch that, if you live anywhere in the Southeast, you should be going to FP!
