Stillen S/C Total

I was wondering... I have a black 6MT coupe. I'm thinking about putting the Stillen Stage 1 S/C kit on. How much did everyone pay for the kit, everything included? I'm talking about the kit, hood, install, and tuning. A final number would be great and some hp and time numbers would also be amazing. Also, does this kit come with a warrenty or is that just the Stage 2/3?

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Stillen S/C Total

I'll answer what I can...

The Stillen SC Kits are not tunable, they're plug & play. So no tuning costs. You can get a warranty for stages 1 and 2. I believe only stage 2 is CARB approved. The only retail costs I know for all the parts are right off their website...

Here is a dyno of another members Stillen SC. I believe it is stage II. If you have the $$$ I would suggest getting the stage II. Reason being that it has an inter cooler. Your engine will last longer because of it. The HP number are higher too.

In Theory, practice and theory are the same.

The image is having trouble getting attached. I will try again on this post. It's only 42Kb.

Re: Stillen S/C Total

Sweet thanks for the info. Looks like Stage II is the way to go. It's nice we don't have to get it tuned, we can just put it on . Anyone recommend anything to help manage the fuel? I heard of something that plugs into the stock ECU.

Re: Stillen S/C Total

Anyone have any other hoods for thier S/C other than the Stillen one? If I were to pick, the carbon fiber hood from Stillen would be my guess. It's probably lighter and if I didn't like the look on a black car I could just paint it.

Also... an intercooler will make my engine last longer? I don't see how this could be true really but I do know it's a plus to have one. Explain please.

Re: Stillen S/C Total

MalX,

It all comes down to reducing the tendancy of detonation to occur.

When a fuel/air charge is compressed in the cylinder both the temperature and pressure of the charge increase dramatically. Sometimes enough heat is generated that autoignition can occur before the sparkplug sets it off. This is called pinging or detonation. Pinging can occur while the pistion is still moving upward in its compression phase and it creates extreamly high pressures and stresses that can damage many different parts of the engine. Autoignition of the fuel/air charge is determined by the fuel's autoignition point and the temperature of the air being compressed. Cheap fuel, MTBE, ethers, long straight chain hydrocarbons or low octane fuel in general has a low autoignition point.

One way to prevent pinging is to reduce the final aidabatic compression temperature. This can be done by lowing the temperature of the intake charge before it is compressed.

When using forced induction the air is pre compressed by the turbo or supercharger to about 7 psi and the air temperature increases to about 340 degF. Now if you shove this hot air into the cylinder and compress it once again, the possibility of pinging is much greater.

The purpose of the intercooler is to reduce the charge temperature and reduce the tendancy of pinging. It also has the benefit of increasing the density of the charge so your engine can ingest more charge during the same stroke.

The result is more HP and a safer running engine.

Re: Stillen S/C Total

Hello,

I had the Stillen Stage 2 installed on my sedan and I opted for the carbon fiber hood, too, under the same logic as you--I'll see how it looks and, if I don't like it, I'll paint it. Turns out that I think it looks great. It matches very well with black. From a distance, it looks black. It's only when you come closer and the light catches it that you can see the carbon fiber. Very cool, if you ask me.

I don't know anything about any other hoods that are compatible. Sorry.

Carlin

Can we get a pic of someone's G35 with the Stillen hood installed?

Re: Stillen S/C Total

Yeah that would be awesome. It would be even cooler if it was Carbon-Fiber so I can photoshop it on peoples cars.

Re: Stillen S/C Total

How safe do you guys think the Stage I is? I just want to obtain about 350HP Maybe 400. I would rather do it N/A but I'm sure I would have to spend just the same ammount of money on Exhast / Intakes / Headers / Pulleys / Lighter flywheels / Weight Reduction / Grounding kits.... what else? Can you reach 350-380 N/A?

Thanks - Joey Avino
