Discounts on "Large" shop builds???

I guess one's definition of "Large" may vary but I'm dropping my car off at a shop to have app $12K worth of work. All prices quoted were same as individually listed on their website.

Most industries would offer a discount on parts when buying in large quantities.

I'm not asking for specifics, just anyone's general experiences.

Thanks

Forgot to add that $12K doesn't include Greddy TT kit, clutch fly, Haltech, and few other parts. Some purchased from same shop. Some not

My experience has been, particularly with body work, is that the more you do at once the more the shop can work with you on the price. I would not expect individual line items that add up to $12K would actually cost $12K in the end. I haven't done an FI build but I expect that they should be able to give you some sort of discount for doing that much work at one time.

Confused...Are you referring to labor costs or part costs? Labor is labor and most shops will not budge on labor unless it is a sponsorship of some sort.

Parts are a different story...the price quoted will depend on how large the shops buy in is with certain manufacturers. A small buy in will result in higher prices and less wiggle room.

But like you said a defintion of a "large" build varies...$12K IMO is not a large build...and I mean no offense by this.

I should have clarified that I was asking about a parts discount. Thinking of gently asking for 10% off everything but built SB.

I was just happy to find out that labour wasn't taxed!!! Never thought to look at that aspect of most of the work I have had done by mechanics over the years....

so you want them to give you a 10% discount when you didn't purchase the actualy turbo kit, clutch, ems at their place? talk about a slap in the face of the shop.

so what else are you getting worth 12k if that doesn't include basically any of the main components?

and like stated above, labor is labor. They charge what they do because that's what pays the person spending his time on your car.

I clarified that I wasn't referring to labor

Of course I wasn't asking for a percentage off parts that I didn't buy from them. That would be more than slightly retarded.

I just think if the total going in is estimated to be over $12k (app $4-4.5k) being labor, I shouldn't be paying the same price as a customer buying one or two items totaling $150.

Of course, just cause I think that doesn't make it a reality. That is why I was asking the forum.

so you're dropping 16k with them.

have you seen teh invoices yet or just been quoted from them? I'm assuming you are keeping the shop unnamed so i can't say whether it's their business practices or not. I know Hal @ injected performance did a great job at helping me on my bill when i went to him. He's going to make way more money from helping me out the little he did that 1 time since i will always go back to him. Gonna be back in a few months to drop more coin actually

just depends on the shop. wait til you see your invoice though. When asking hal for prices he would quote me in what they sell it for. "xx sells for xx$ from us". When it came bill time he hooked me up though. I never expected a special hookup but they are great people and since i got a deal i ended up adding more things to my bill.
