Angry over heating Problems (headgaskets)

VQ35de motor

I lifted a head

Stock boar
8.8.1 pistons wiseco 95.5mm
Sleeved block darton
apr head bolts (not L19 bolts)
pathfinder cooling mod
Only 2 coolent hoses remove the unnecessary ones
(sorry for spelling)

I want to know if the apr head bolts are good for 600whp? I used cometic. I think i lifted the head. I have the motor our now. just tearing it down. I am thinking of using HKS but i am about this part????

I have been reading ppl are putting a hr gasket instead of DE gasket what is it better for cooling. if you have a DE motor???? Also i have read that people cut certain parts of the block for better cooling. is this proven?

Yet another sleeved VQ lifting heads.

Just buy the L19's and a good DE head gasket, I'd recommend hks or cosworth and call it good.

post this up over on my350z. you'll get more responses there. along the lines of what seymore posted, most people there seem to go with L19 studs, and either HKS or Cosworth head gaskets. consensus seems to be that Cometic HGs aren't as reliable, and although they may work, the HR HGs are unproven for high power levels.

again, you'll get more definitive answers posting over there.

Until tear down it is hard to say if you lifted a head or if a sleeve dropped. Sleeves often drop due to incorrect installation so unless the sleeves were installed by darton it is possible one dropped slightly. Also for sleeved engines you should be running evans waterless coolant as it goes along way towards preventing head lift.

What torque was the head studs torqued to? It's suppose to be around 94 ftlbs and correct sequence. Head lifting and overheating can also be due to incorrect installation of the iron sleeves. The instructions I have to install those iron sleeves are very specific and there are MANY steps to prep the block.

I would leave the block open next time. Block and crankshaft is fine stock for pretty much whatever you want to make.
