fer sure man... keep in mind I have the HKS turbo muffler on my car. It drowns out the s/c quite a bit. Oh and vortech gave me a quieter blowoff valve... can barely hear it.

 

Question: When your at idle, can you feel your plumbing rattling agaianst the body at all? That's one of the reasons I'd like to meet up. I wanna compare your system sound/install/look to mine and see if there's any dif.

 

My intercooler piping was rubbing and vibrating on the drivers fender well and up against the back of the blower .Had to take a piece of rubber hose and wedge in between them . Made a big diff . in the noise level

Question: What the hell causes belt squeal? It lasts for a freakin minute and then dies down.

What do you mean? It's loose, so when the pulley turns the belt is not catching? For almost a minute straight?

 

your belt stretches over time and may need to be retighten or the belt will slip causing the noise and lost of boost.

Are you using the NAPA belt Dan? or the one that came with the kit?

If you don't have it yet... Get the NAPA belt... I have only tightened my belt once at about 500 miles after install and I have about 4K on my set up with NO belt slipping issues and NO squeeling.

 

Had the Napa/Gates belt and it got a little tear in it after my A/C belt snapped on the dyno. Bought a new Goodyear Gatorback to put in. The gates one cost twice as much for some reason and tuner said it was just as good. It was slipping after install, but I know its normal for newer belts to stretch over time. Just didnt think it would be slipping at low rpms. Ended up tightening it today and no squeal as of yet.

How much did you tighten it Triji? What's you method of not over tightening?

Lol overtighten? Um... I just got mine cranked pretty tight. I can turn the belt about 1/8 to 1/4 and no more w/ my fingers. not to scientific but I have had zero problems with my belt... the gates belt is more expesive but it is also alot thicker and IMO worth the couple of bucks to run w/ the Vortech.

 

Been told many times not to over tighten the tension bolt or it will damage the bearings. Don't know the bearings to what though.

Triji, did you tighten the tension bolt until you couldn't turn it anymore?

 

No, I still have more to go on the bolt... It is getting close tho, I prolly have a couple of turns left on it...

I am running the 93" NAPA belt with the 3.12 pulley by the way so that will be different than the stock set up...

 

that's because the Gates is twice as thick and doesn't stretch as much...go buy the gates and stop being cheap, Dan. You already spent all of this money...when tightened correctly, the belt should only turn 90 degrees when using your index, middle and thumb to twist (turn) it. Anymore than that and it's still loose. There's an easier way to get to the tensioner pulling bolt than from under...buy a rachet that can swivel 180 degrees...then go through the front of the engine bay...I think its 12mm, but I would make sure...
