question for you 5AT Vortech guys

I have been doing tons of research for my future vortech setup here and on my350 and have a few questions. How many of you 5at guys upgraded to the 2.87 pulley? For those that have, did you lower your redline at all?

The reason i ask is because the vortech bible over on my350 recommended lowering the redline to 6600 rpm while using the 2.87 pulley to keep the blower closer to its rpm limit. However, I've also read that raising the redline to around 7200 rpm would give the tranny enough time to shift in full auto mode at WOT.

I'm guessing at least some of you have done one or the other, but what im really curious about is if there a way to use the 2.87 pulley, and retain the ability to go WOT without being in manual mode.

I know there are tons of people saying cautious boost is fine and reliable, and even more who swear otherwise but do you think the 2.87 pulley will be making too much boost for a DD? Im looking for somewhere around 380-400 to the wheels but if I had to choose, i'd concede to reliability.

Thanks for your input fellas.

I wouldn't recommend doing that with the transmission. The superchargers are more forgiving on the trannys due to the torque curve, but thats still a lot of moving parts and stress during WOT. The general consensus I've read was to be in manual mode when your FI and want to have fun. But, I'm curious to see what others say about that.

^ I've also always read to avoid shifting while in boost while in D and to switch to manual mode instead. Im usually in MM mode anyway, so it's not a big deal to me.

I'm using the 3.12 pulley myself, but do plan on swapping to the 2.87 in the future. When I do, I'll have the rev limiter lowered to prevent overspinning the blower.

I have a 3.12 pulley and Transgo valve body upgrade. I am always shifting in full automatic mode. You can reach your power goals on a 3.12 pulley...all I have is the V2 kit with 600cc injectors, walbro in tank, and HKS exhaust and put down 373/332.

Thanks for all of the feedback and comments so far. If you posted your own build thread here, ive probably read it and will be taking some cues from all of you. I'll list my own when it starts getting warmer.

Do you guys think I'll need to upgrade my MAF? and will 440cc injectors be enough? I've read opinions going either way.

I would go with at least 600cc injectors, and though it's not necesary to upgrade the MAF I would do it. Uprev has an upgraded MAF that works well.

+1 For going with 600cc DW injectors. Yes, for your power goals, get the upgraded MAF. Stock MAF maxes out around 350-360 whp.

i have DW 600cc and i have a lot of room for more power out of them. I'm running the 2.87 and have been for about 5-6 months. durning the summer i daily drive my G with no problems. I didn't lower the rev's, i actually raised it a little bit. LOL The 2.87 should boost you about 12 pounds and I'm boosting about 16-17 with mine because of the higher revs. Everytime I drive the car I DRIVE it. I do not baby her and she's been fine.. Only problem i had was i snapped my power steering belt just before I put her away for the winter.

JDroll, do you have a tranny cooler and/or oil cooler? Also, do you have a valve body upgrade?

I have 50k on my 06 right now. Mostly highway miles though. I, probably along with everybody else, would highly suggest doing tons of reading here and on my350. Theres a great Vortech thread there if that the route you want to take.

What happened to your motor?

Ouch. If I were you I would do some engine upgrades before dropping it in. Just because its out and you wanna go FI anyway....but that's just me and my monopoly money dreaming.
