"TM" Vortech Belt Mod - Interest Thread
just a thought... wouldn't providing more belt capture on the jackshaft pulley be a better solution ?
im noticing the alternator doesn't have much capture either.
ive run into this issue several times on engine transplants etc. with more belt capture the tension wont need to be as tight and the belt will last longer

By "capture" do you mean how much of the circumferance has belt on it? If so, the jackshaft pulley actually has a very reasonable amount of 'wrap', IMO. More than most pulleys I've seen.
nice bud good work! you may have one issue unless your belt is tighter than it should be though, the Allignment is just a bit off and when the belt stretches it might contact the timing cover. hope it works out, worst case you just need to re drill the dimple to "clock"it a bit the other way

Remove the tensioner and install the idler pulley, the serpentine stays put.
I left adequate room for the belt clearance with the timing cover for belt stretch....but the belt jumps grooves on the jackshaft pulley immediately at idle.
nice dude looks good, well something isn't lined up obviously and unfortunately, so check the belt alignment, not sure why you are having an issue if you preset the tension and the belts are aligned
Thanks...I don't have any more time to mess with it this weekend. I put the grooved idler pulley back in and tensioned the belt manually. Runs as it should.
I'll come back to the tensioner when I get some time to play with it.
post back!
fyi to onlookers: I just gave speedk1ng a quick parts list and very rough instructions via PM to help him do this mod himself, he is not actually having trouble with a kit. I have not produced or sold a kit

Not really a noob question, as it's not specifically a pulley, but rather the belt itself. The most common reasons are the alternator loading up, A/C compressor loading up, and Power steering, same thing. It's not uncommon for all 3 of these to load up around the same time usually on cold starts and parking lot manouvering.
The second part is belt slip caused by the supercharger loading up, which doesn't tend to be an obvious squeal, just a loss of tension and boost

Dredging this up from the dead......but I spent a little more time to understand my issue with my belt walking forward on the jackshaft pulley. I think I have a resolution in place, but it will be a bit before I have some other projects complete and can start the engine to see if all works.
I'll post up once I get it started......
