stillen stage 1 ...any input appreciated
I am looking to purchase the stillen stage 1 supercharger kit. I know the vortech is the preferred system; however, the parts/labor/tune are a little too much for me. How safe is the stage 1 (no intercooler and box tune) ? Are injections required for the install? I looked over the instructions and they do not appear to be needed. the kit would not be for racing, just daily driver and a bit of getting on it from time to time. I found good deal on a stillen hood and have a buddy to help install.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Just looking through their website, they don't even list the stage one for sale. Just 2 and 3. $5400 and you still need to get it installed and then you only get an extra 50-80 hp without a good tune.
BTW, if you live in a hot climate, you NEED the intercooler.

Tex, how do you feel about buying a used kit?
Full disclosure: I have no experience with FI
It would depend on the age and the mileage. Most of the stuff you just can't break but the bearings in the SC, and the supporting belt drive could be an issue.

OP you should be able to afford a used vortech kit if you were planning on purchasing a new stillen top mount kit. The vortech kit seems to be very easy to install, so you and your friend should have no issue. You will have to tune it; I've seen FI tuning available for ~$650 (If costs haven"t gone up). That's if you aren't already licensed through uprev. You may be able to find someone who has an ECU available that has already been tuned for a vortech kit.
If not, the biggest issue I see is getting the car to the dyno. I have always joked around that I would install the kit without the belt, except the injectors... Drive there early to install the injectors/belt and be done with it. It's a long shot though.
