ok, i know there are a lot of guys with stillen s/c here. is anyone else having problems with the main belt wearing out too fast? i'm going to get a 3rd now. we did replace the pulley due to vibration and the new one they sent is not alined correctly. stillen claims they are only good for like 6k miles. wtf? i have may be 3k since i got the s/c installed and going on the 3rd now.

Wow and that is the best one on the market too...I too am curious to know if this is something I will have to worry about.

 

sounds like the tensionor pulley is too tight...possibly?

 

i looked at it and it's not allined correctly. that's why the belt is wearing out so fast. i'll probably will have to align it and find a better belt. stillen is claiming only 6k out of the belt anyway. anyone got any ideas for superb belts?

 

Look up the right size belt from a company called GATES. Their belts are thicker and you should have a belt longer then 6k miles

Is there a spec for the tension of the belt? I have HKS SC and they have both 1st time install tension spec and after 1st time run tension spec.

turns out that belt is gates belt. and it tore on me right before i left.
i guess the nice things about it is that it went to the stock engine. i mean the car was running just fine
well, the car is in the shop for now and i'll give an update when i get back from europe in 3 weeks.

Man, this sounds exactly like the problems with the Stillen Vortech SC kits for the 95-01 Maximas. With those set-ups, it's terribly common for the belts to shred/snap and then tensioner pulley to wear out. The problem lies in Stillen's poor R&D of the pulley set-up and use of subpar materials. Stillen's stand is "you're on your own", but we'll sell you what you need to fix it for an ungodly price.

 

the $250 warranty for 3 years/36k miles comes in handy
i think it's a minor issue. other than the belt, i'm very pleased with the application.

 

well, i'm back. took my car from the shop and it looks to be fixed. turns out the pulley on the other side was too close (or too far from the other one). that could have been the problem with the noise in the begining. stillen sent a new pulley with a spacer to align the two together. anyway, for now it's fixed and i'll see after a few weeks if the belt starts wearing out again. nice to be back in my g after driving a MB G320 - mafia car in europe
