Supercharger or turbocharger on an automatic?

Would I lose any power if I installed it on an automatic transmission?

You might also go with a less powerful kit due to tranny life. The choice is really yours. More power more wear

Re: Supercharger or turbocharger on an automatic?

Actually you could get a custom Torque Converter. It would be able to handle all the power you send through it. Look at all the Top Fuel cars they run an Automatic Tranny. There's No Way you could ever shift fast enough to run a 4 second 1/4 mile. A custom torque converter usually runs at least $1,500 That's why I didn't get one on my Last car CL TypeS
I wanted to run a 100 shot of NOS But oh well, Now I can run it on my 6MT Coupe...........

A guy on my350z.com has an automatic, 100 shot of nitrous and runs high 12's. He has no problems and is in fact installing a FI system soon (without the nitrous). I think a torque converter installed for $1000 and a shift kit will do just fine for anything we throw at it. But, I don't think we will need it immediately. The same transmission is used on the Q45/M45 at what (?) 345ish. The FI gets somewhere under 400. I don't see a problem.

not F1, FI. FI = Forced Induction (turbo / sc / nitrous).

Turbo and Blowers...good...I am on the same page. Nitrous isn't really a forced induction though. You are not cramming any more air into the motor with nitrous.you are just making the mixture more explosive. I mean way more explosive. The bigger the bang the more power you get-to a point.

I did not mean to imply that the nitrous and FI systems are the same. But the transmission doesn't know the difference. 400 hp is 400 hp. So, if the 350z auto can handle it....

Re: Supercharger or turbocharger on an automatic?

Actually N20 is a Chemical form of Forced induction. Nos By it self is not explosive. You've been watching Too Much Fast & the Furious. LOL Nitrous is a Liquid in the Bottle, When used it becomes a Gas, One that is 200 degrees below 0 By its extreme coldness the Surrounding air is supercooled alowing it to become Super Dense ( More Oxygen) MORE POWER By the Way it's really cool at the Dentists office.......

Please note that if you use what the dentist provides to power your car you aren't going very far. The good stuff is poisonous. Yes its is not explosive nut the reaction is as you stated.

Re: Supercharger or turbocharger on an automatic?

N2O and N20+ are exactly the same, the difference is that N20+ has sulphur added to make you sick if you try and abuse it by inhaling. Smell wise you cannot really tell the difference. I believe it is illegal to have in your possession the medical grade N20 if you are not a doctor.
General consensus from Nitrous users is that there is less wear and tear on your engine, when it is off the vehicle is stock and not under constant load or heat like a turbo and supercharger.
So far on a stock vehicle it looks like the same hp is being achieved by N20, Turbo and Supercharger add ons.
It will come down to personal choices and how much money you want to spend. Always comes down to the $$$.
