APS S/T reviews.....any?

I'm hoping that somebody has installed the new APS S/T and has put enough time on it to give an honest critique/evaluation. It's something I'm seriously considering and want some input before spending 6 large $$$. Thanx jbx

bump

Would you order the APS ST or the Turbonetics ST? I am leaning toward the APS.

Id go with either one - just depends on what the reviews are - so far, it seems the APS TT is getting grrrreat reviews - but i also know that Turbonetics has been a well known company for a good while too~

The only thing i dont like about APS is that they "like" (more like force) you to use alllll their stuff with their kits (exhaust, plenum, etc)....which is kinda annoying becasue people already have spend $$$ on other parts......but if it works, and is powerful and reliable - then i guess its worth it...

ANY APS S/T G35s out there??????????????

What made you go with APS over Turbonetics? Besides neither one is readily available for the G?

I like the turbo 'housing' design/construction of the APS (their own not Garrett) and the simplicity of the requirements (plumbing etc) for an install.http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/35.../it_system.htm

25 st kits were sold to grd and then sold to various customers at the begining of the month. some are waiting for installs, 93 octane tunes, etc. it will be a few weeks before they start popping up on the forums. at the time i chose aps st because, turbonetics didnt have a g35 kit yet, greddy seemed liked too much work to get it to run right, and apstt's were too expensive at the time. if i can get 390-400 hp with a fujistsubo exhaust and plenum spacer i'll be happy. should be done about the first week of sept.

ive had my st installed about a month now, i installed it myself, took about a week, working 3-4 hours a night, the kit is very well manufactured, high quality parts. aps did a good job with that.

the car is very strong, boost builds very fast starting around 2500 rpms, and full boost is around 3200 rpms, before i set my wastegate, i was hitting 12psi. now i max out around 9-10. under 4500 rpms the kit is great, but anything above 4500, the boost starts to creep down to about 5psi at redline. i was told it was because of my exhaust, so i got a new one, well it didnt help, i even drove the car with no exhaust and it didnt change, then i was told it was because i had the 91 tune, so i sent it back to tuan at grd for a 93 tune and some custom things, oh well, it still doesnt maintain boost. it you shift below 4500 it maintains boost but once its over 4500 it drops.

my first dynos were 377tq and 310hp, which is much more than the vortech i had on the car, but i was having bad boost leak issues, i kept blowing a coupler off the intercooler, since then ive changed all the couplers out to heavier ones with stronger clamps.

its been frustrating trying to get this boost issue fixed. ive rechecked everything and nothing is wrong, today im gonna take off the electronic boost controller and try a manual.

aps has a boost graph on the website that shows the boost holding like 8-9psi all the way to redline, and they say that car only has the kit and their TD exhaust and some tuning, but that doesnt represent the "real world" results of the kit so dont be fooled. i think aps did it to be safe so no aps motors would blow.

tuan did change the wastegate actuator and it did hold boost, he offered that to me if nothing else works, so thats probably what im gonna do.

there is a dyno day at a shop here today that im going to so hopefully i can get some good numbers. i also put the plenum on so i hope that helps.

for those expecting 380+ from this kit, unless you live near a tuner or dont mind driving to one for a custom tune, youre gonna be dissappointed.

Were those numbers you posted correct, my first dynos were 377tq and 310hp? Or is it the other way around?

Interesting, if you could do it over would you have chosen the Turbonetics kit? Or do you have an '04 so it wasn't an option?

My 2 cents... TN has reflash issues with some of the people who have installed this ST system. It's a crap shoot as to whether or not you'll have issues, but if you do, you won't know until the system is installed on your car and not working properly.

The APS TT looks to be bullet proof but you have to pay for it. The APS ST still seems to need a little bit of work (apparently), hopefully soon all of the bugs will be worked out. TN looks 'ok' to me but I'm very leary of e-mail ECU tuning when dyno tuning and road tuning are much better options.

If you go APS, the best plan is to budget in a trip to get the car tuned by someone who really knows the system well.

Subscribing to post want to see what happens with tig and the ST.. May go down that route because I think its the simplest but mabye not depending on what works out with the kits.. And being that I own an 05 may make it that much more difficult..

wooh-hooh, got the problem fixed, we ended up putting a manual boost controller on it, and tightening the hell out of the wastegate actuator, it holds the boost finally, im hitting ~11psi and holding to ~9 by redline. damn its a totally different car now. it pulls like crazy. ill post my new numbers when i get them.
