Tell us how your FI behaves

I'm ineterested in moving my 05G35C5AT into the Fi realm, like many others.

I'm curious for descriptions on how the car behaves with different setups in real world driving.

For example, with the Vortech, what happens if you go WOT at 20mph? Will the tires light up?

Or with an APS TT, if your rounding a bend, how much does it take to whip the end out?

My main concern is safety, and I'm trying to understand how the car will react under different driving conditions.

What's a turbo like in the snow with all that bottom end torque?

So in general, try to recall the behavior of your FI when you were like "Holy ****, I need to remember not to do that again."

Thanks for any insight,

John

ati procharger
under 3500rpm its pretty much tame, but after that the power comes on really fast!
going straight, I've never spun my tires switching into second gear(a/t)
but on any given corner or curve, fugetaboutit! i have to feather the throttle.
my favorite is downshifting from 4th to 2nd, at about 40mph, I flick the shifter twice, the car quickly downshifts to 2nd the rpm JUMP to about 4500 & hold on.

Yea he pro charger looks real nice. I really like that the oil pan doesn't need tapping.

I think if you got the valve body upgrade the tires would rip into second, actually gurgen chirped them in third with his VBUG.

Is there any issue with getting air into the intercooler with the stock front bumper? No way I want to change it.

Baily,

Hows the noise / sound of the procharger? I've been hearing about rattling at idle for the Vortech, you hear any of this?

I'm also looking for quiet operation cause I can't look like a ricer going to work!

Stillen Supercharger stage 3.

When cruising, the car drives like stock with no whine coming from the supercharger. This kit can be very discreet if you keep out of heavy boost.

From a standstill the run to 60 or so comes very fast. In my automatic, if I slam on the gas from a stop it will break loose through all of 1st gear. It has lots of torque down low and pushes hard to redline. When accelerating through turns you can get the *** out, but it all depends on how far you want it too. The power is predictable and its easy to get into and out of trouble.

When my car was N/A I used to try to get the a$$ out and power through turns, but it required lots of effort. Now I can do it at will

Overall i think its deceivingly fast. What I mean by that is a z06 feels fast because one it is, and two it has that raw power growl. With a supercharger that raw horsepower growl is replaced by an screaming whine, yet dare I say probably as quick.

It has a different sound (from stock) at idle & a sort of wistle/whine when driving. Just like a jet engine winding up. It sounds different at different throttle positions & rpm levels. No rattling at all.
Didn't pass the wife test though. (too bad for her)
I don't mind it nearly as much as test pipe rasp.
I'm at 350hp/310tq on a pretty conservative tune. On cold days the car is definitely more powerful.
I too like the stock look. I put in some diverters in the lower grills to allow all the air coming in the lower grills to go through the intercooler. I also used fat mat to cut some of the belt noise. No more belt noise but the stlight whine is still there. Not the prettist stuff, but very effective. I also have stock rims with 275 goodyear f1 gs. Very nice tire. I'm about to widen my stock tires to 10 or 10.5 inches & will probably put 315's on there.
(an idea I got from another member here) more sleeper effect.
I'll cover that in another thread when the tims comes.
It'll spin 'em through 1st & 2nd gear if turning a corner.
I honestly DON'T put it to the floor very often. Don't need to!!!
I haven't open her up on the highway yet. mostly local driving,
I gone up to 100 once or twice on quiet "highway-like" roads & it gets there fast, real fast.

I'll take a few finished pics this weekend. I'll be happy to answer any questions here on through e-mail. peace baileyrx@aol.com

Well since at ~25-ish you're forced to shift into second gear, and at 20 your rpm's are super high and since rpm is related to boost and first gear goes by so quickly you might have 0.5 seconds to shift after 20mph. You probably aren't spinning the wheels at that point because you'll be shifting almost immediately after you floor it.

Basically any time you can down shift and hit 3500 rpms or more you can slam someone's head into the passenger seat rather unexpectedly.

My favorite move is driving 65 to 70mph on the highway and then down shifting into 3rd and flooring it in my 6mt. The gearing is such that it will SLAM you back into your seat and you will pass the car next to you like it's standing still!

The same thing can be done in 2nd gear, but in 1st and 2nd gears you climb through the gears so fast that it's much tougher to do.

Now if you take off from a stop in WOT, you will spin the stock tires all the way through 1st and a good bit of the way in 2nd. At WOT I can catch wheel in the 2/3 shift all day long with my heavier aftermarket wheels if I shift really quickly. Remember, the Vortech makes max hp and boost at redline. When you are at redline and you shift, your power band is right there waiting for you. Too bad it doesn't have the same "GRAB" at 1000 rpms.

I'll chime in b/c I have a 5AT. Like Neff said, anytime you can downshift and be above 3000 rpms, you'll immediatly feel your head get pushed to the seat. Also....when starting in first, I like to regularly get her up to about 3000 and then go WOT...I'll spin them out and get squirly till redline. The key is to be moving and downshift to the right gear. Its predictable and fun.

Great posts guys!

I've read about how Fi has blown motors, but have yet to hear someone blowing their 5AT.

Its seems accepted that the VB upgrade and Tranny cooler is pretty mandetory, but you guys seem to be doing ok.... is this something to really be concerned over?

I have a shop close to me in Chicago, GRD performance, and they are recommending the APS single turbo, as the master tuner can tune the turbo to whatever specs I want. I'm lured by the bottom end torque, but this is where the trans would take the beating.

That's who did my install (Tuan) and I've been very happy with the performance and no problems or issues whatsoever for 3K miles.

To say I love the APS twin turbo kit is an understatement.. I installed the APS plenum along with a better bumper for the intercooler and the thing is a BEAST. WOT is like nothing else.

As far as safety goes, I know my tires are getting a little worn down so I dont punch it in the corners, as it is right now it'll lose traction in 3rd on a cool day. After a while you get a feel for the limits of the car in the curves.

Rain I dont hit boost at all, the car still acts as if its N/A if you drive normal.. no traction issues there with a good set of tires. (I recommend BF Goodrich KDW 2's)

You will hit the rev limiter..its ineveitable if you go turbo because it revs up so quick, 4000 miles later I still have to watch my rpm's because it is easy to forget.

Those are really the only things I worry about.. consistently check under the hood for anything out of the ordinary or leaks and you should be good to go.

Homie, we'll need to meet up after the Procharger install.
