inputs on TN ST or APS ST on 04 5AT?
inputs on TN ST or APS ST on 04 5AT?
i'm really not sure about getting a turbo kit for my 04 g35c 5at. I've looked everywhere on this forum and couldn't find anyone that has tried this yet. How do you guys feel about turbocharging a 5at? Is it not as reliable or safe on a auto then it is for a 6speed? I am very interested in getting a turbo but i don't have the money to be a guinea pig. . . . . if anyone has any information on this subject i would be more then happy to listen. Any information at all on this subject would be helpful.
imo, if I had a 5at I'd go with the vortech kit, the torque from the Turbo kits will wreak havoc on your tranny unless you go with some upgrades. I think if you are trying to save some pennys, and go FI with an auto, and are worried about reliablity, then supercharger is the way to go.
An authorized APS installer just installed the APS ST on my 04 5AT. I will give you may opinions after a few miles.
I will also post the base line dynos before install, before tunning and after tunning. You can always pm with your questions.
FYI -- There are at leat 5 G35 and 350z owners who have installed TTs or STs on their cars. Do a search for APS ST on this site or on my350z.com

...just due to the simple nature of the power characteristics of a supercharger vs a turbo. Simply, the power curve of a supercharger is more linear than a turbo, so that throws it at the transmission relatively at a gradual rate instead of the turbo "punch" for lack of better terms. That punch in power is what hurts the transmission. Also, the superchargers available for our cars usually run at lower boost, lower hp, and lower torque, which all means less stress for the drivetrain. So just relatively speaking, I would say the Vortech is the safest, proven kit to run on an auto, or even a manual for that matter.
That being said, I'm pretty sure there are alot of guys on here running ST and TT kits on an auto for many many miles without problems. You just have to pick how much you want to spend, and how much power you want behind the wheels.
