Supercharger or Turbocharger

Hey I'm tryin to decide on whether to get a supercharger or a turbocharger. My best friend is sayin a supercharger because they are more reliable or sumthin but the guy who knows all this stuff that does this as a business is sayin a turbocharger. I want to kno what everyone thinks who have one of these which one should i get? I'm also wonderin how cheap I can get either one, because I was lookin for one under $4000 or around there. Also which ever one I get, do I need to get anything else for my car like headers or exhaust or does it matter? Thanks for your time.

I am no expert but both systems have pro's and con's. Trying doing a search on the forums for more info.

Personally, If I had to choose I'd go with Turbo...love that blow off valve sound.

I'm probably goign to go SC. More linear power band, less stuuf that can break in the long run. It won't make as much power as a turbo, but I'm only really looking for another 50-75 hp.

If you have the choice: Save a little extra money for the turbo. The kit will cost you more out of the box but the surge of power as the power gradually increases from 3200 rpm to redline is an experience you will never get with an SC. There are a few things about Turbo that need to be watched closely. The clutch and flywheel. The stock clutch will absolutely get roasted, get a heavy duty clutch. The axles (although this is really not a problem because the G's axles are good up to about 650 rwhp. The SC Does just as much wear on the engine but in a different way. The torque created on the engine to spool the SC is tremendous from a stop. There is a ton more parasitic loss with an SC so it has to work that much harder to make power. The turbo is a much more efficient system and if tuned and installed right should last as long if not long than a super. Plus there is no replacement for how hard the power comes on in a turbo. A lot of guys with Vortech will tell you if they had to do it over again they would go turbo. At the end of the day you have to make up your own mind about it. I hope this helped.

Thanks for all the feedback but i have one more question. How often would i have to tune either the supercharger or turbocharger considering it was done by someone who owns a shop? And which one, the supercharger or the turbocharger would you have to tune and keep up with more often?

You know what Hyperlite, you're very right.

I've seen a quite a few people go from SC to Turbo...but not the other way around.

Turbo if you don't mind boostin low or building the motor. Supercharge if you want reliable power with lower torque. Let the faming begin...oh, and Gretchen, tell Danny I said HI. Love your new show on VH1. I knew you drove a Z, but a G too?

Who told you this? They lied to you. But YES, Hyper's car is torquey, but torque does tend to break stock internals.

Good man! And you'll get much more than 50-75 more hp...try a minimum of 100, but more than likely, 125hp+ and 75ftlbs more.

Texas is great! I've met some great people (Hyper's one of them) and I'm having a blast. If I had the money you put into your G35, I'd go turbo too. Every, you are looking at the highest producing HP and TRQ G35 in the world. Congrats, Tom!

I hope you meant 4000 for just the kit... Because with the kit, all the accesories , and install.. You're looking about 7--8k depending on ST or SC

I think a turbo kit is better than a supercharger. Not actually better, but if you're looking for more speed then you're better off with a turbo. Turbo has a wider powerband which = more power. A 300hp Supercharged car vs. a 300hp Turbo'd car (equal drivers), the Turbo'd one will win "all the time".

I think a supercharger is easier to drive, well in general at least. Its kind of like the driving the same car except up the car's power curve by 30%+, Turbo will be like stock until BAM... you hit boost or something came out of your engine that isn't supposed to come out . Playing, playing ... but in your situation $$-wise, go with the Vortech, or maybe even stillen if you can handle the hood. You'll be happy. I am getting a ST though
